Moving away from Example* templates

Hello everyone. Is it possible to develop a 'bare-bones' template in making an OGRE application or everything has to come out of ExampleApplication.h and ExampleFrameListener.h? These two files are the backbone of the bundled examples that came with OGRE. But later on, if I want to make an OGRE application from scratch, is it possible without including the two files? And if it is, can you provide some code?
