skybox \pefrormace question

How bad of a performace/resorce hit would 4096 res skybox textures be?

Depends on the card.. But it would definitly result in a lot of GPU bandwidth. (also, a lot of cards have 2048 as max)

I'd say, try it.

LOL I did 1 fps on a gforce 6800gt=p


I'm not happy with our skyboxes we cant seem to make them look good (space sim) there very streched and even 1 pixel stars look bad. whats the best way to get good looking skyboxes? we want to at least equal eve-online or better.

Eve-Online not use a normal skyboxes or skyplanes. Is a very complex form of rendering ( like flight simulator with the clouds), when you see a planet is not a texture for example is a planet! & move & scale when you move, obviosuly the planet isn't at 300000 km! because clip distance will delete it. I have to say that is complex.


I remember seen something in the videos about the company, one in the team explain something about it.
