What do I need to make maps for this thing?

The Gimp is one of the best ones avaliable, and is almost on a level with Photoshop. And its Open Source!!RyanN wrote:maps as in textures - use photoshop or any other image program. (not sure about any free ones)
Also, the best place to find documentation on all of this is the Ogre Wiki.

Ogre also has libraries that give support to load BSP-file format. It is the format that Quake 3 uses and its possible to load Quake 3 levels into the engine. There are many editors that supports Quake 3 file format. (check the wiki, think i read something there about them). Also check the BSP demo in the Ogre demos.
