my bookshelf is early 90's timeframe so probably not in print ,
but may be available in libraries (fortunately the protocols etc
dont change much ) but what I have and have used are
- series of 3 books by douglas comer on internetworking with tcp/ip
published by prentice hall 1991 - 1993 I found them very good
- unix network programming by w richard stevens prentice hall (1990)
which has chaps 1,5 on overviews , rest is unixy (v good for me)
- data communications, computer networks and open systems by fred halsall
addison wesley 1992 ... a bit heavy going ... never did get into it ,
but should cover most things . doesnt have frame relay in index.
I didnt think that osi was much used these days , but that wouldnt stop
questions being asked about it !
Most of the open internet protocols are available as 'requests for comments' (rfc) with a number
eg rfc 1939 - Post Office Protocol , not sure whether those would be of interest.
Hope you get some better suggestions than these
Cheers,
Steve
