XSI .FX Addon

Post by Kentamanos »

For those using XSI, this might be a useful addition to your toolchain:
XSI .FX Addon

Apparently it allows you to import .FX files from Rendermonkey, FXComposer, etc. directly into XSI as realtime materials. sinbad's exporter should then create the material script for this upon exporting.

I'm downloading it now, and I'll try it out soon...

The XSI material exporter doesn't support shaders yet, since XSI embeds shaders rather than linking external files which makes it awkward to re-use shaders.

My bad, I made an assumption. I can definitely see how it would make things awkward, since you wouldn't want to output the same material every time it is used.

Is there now way in XSI itself to force it to reuse materials? I know some object properties are shared (the italicized ones in the "explorer"), but I haven't looked at this case too closely. Assuming you could reuse materials like that, it could just be made part of the process for using the exporter.
