terrain manager

Post by nickserg »

I saw many talks here about PLSM.
But I am not sure it is what I need, cause I always see height-maps,

in my case I need to generate terrain from different kind of 3d
data - 3d-points, iso-strips and maybe sets of triangles,
I already have the way to create triangulated surface
so
I need just manager which combines some triangulated surfaces
with textures. These surfaces are changed when user moves - so they should be dynamic.
Can I use PLSM?

Plsm is heightmap oriented (load an array of heights) and optimized for a very specific way to render data ("geomipmap" patches).

You should use octree scene manager.

What that octree has?
Is that means I should use ordinary meshes for terrain parts?

you should subclass octree scene manager.
octree is a space partitionning technique that compute visible mesh / renderables or not.
you can modify terrain scene manager to display your 'renderables' instead of tsm ones. Need to modify all ray queries to fit your geometry.
