Help, pls! A weird mesh display...Normal/Zbuffer problem?

Post by Bringer of Darkness »

Hi,

I have a very weird behaviour on my model exported from Maya when showing in Ogre...
Looks like:
www.3dpeople.de/image1.jpg

I have checked normals, these are correctly oriented.
Model files can be downloaded from
www.3dpeople.de/heroine_ogre2.mesh
or XML version
www.3dpeople.de/heroine_ogre2.mesh.xml

It seems you can see through model, but only in some areas...
Simply weird, any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Although you said you already checked, it looks like normals are facing the wrong way.
To be really sure, you could disable backface culling in the Ogre material to see if this really isn't the problem.
Strange things can happen in Maya...

Mhm, if you examine the image closer, you will notice, that for example you can see through leg - in case the normals are reversed, you should be able to see other side of the leg, but not see through...
I have tried to inverse normals anyway, but I have received true reversed normals model only:-(((

It looks as if your model is f**ked up - try another one.

ok i just had the same problem, this worked for me:

basically you have to combine with another mesh...

for example:
- create a poly primitive
- polygons>combine your 'inverted' model to it.
- delete the faces of the primitive from the new object
- delete history

by now you should see your faces inverted in maya (like they are when exported)... so reverse normals with editPolygons>normals>reverse

and export again... you should be set.

(also, one time that this happened to me i had to do these steps twice for some reason, so if it didnt work the first time try again... this is definitely a maya issue and not OGRE)

hope this helps!
