Maya export - object instances

Post by johnny182 »

I've created a polygon object in maya 6, and duplicated it by creating an instance of it, so when I modify one of them, both change. Then I export the whole scene to ogre mesh and display it, but only one of the objects is visible.

How can I make the exporter to export both of them?

Both objects should be visible, if you use the scene exporter by MetalDev.

The position might be possibly incorrect though, I had to make some adjustments to get the correct position...

The difference is between Maya exporter and Scene exporter.

I haven't been testing exporting instances via Maya exporter - in fact, I haven't found reason to do so...

Scene exporter exports the original mesh and position of the instance, using the originaly exported mesh.
I think I don't understand the described problem properly...
Do you have problems with exporting it via Ogre exporter, or scene exporter???

To be more exact, I don't want to export the scene but just the object (ie the original one and the instance copy).

Well, the object is symetric, so I want to edit only one side of it, so the other side is an instance copy. But I want to export the whole mesh.[/code]

When you've finalized the look of your mesh, delete the instance, duplicate as a copy, then combine the two and merge vertexes down the middle. ;)

Yes, that's the most reasonable solution...
