Are there any information about 3DSMax8-compatibility? If it exports meshes with Max8 I would want a version even if its fixed together with stickytape and Bubble gum, metaphorically.

Lioric, thanks again for your hard work.

I'm a little desperate to try any exporter even if it is buggy, but don't let me or anyone else pressure you (much :) ) to release it too soon.

Romurs

Post by Lee04 »

Romurs say that Loric started to use Cristal space engine instead and moved the exporter to support that engine..

better look at the Cristalspace web site... :)

Bad joker

Post by Lee04 »

Yeh, I know making jokes is not my strongest side...I am working on it as you can see.

But you must admitt I gott you there for a while? Didn't I? :)

No seriouslly, I am just pointing out that somoetimes an exporter is more importantant than the engine. That's why Lorics work is important dam important. One proof of this is that other engines uses the Ogre exporters and there file formats but not Ogre it self.

cheers

the exporter is more important than the engine, it can make your development life easier

Would there be a reasonable way to export animation data (skeleton, weighted skin, animations) as a Maya/MotionBuilder format such as FBX and combine that with the mesh export from this plugin?

These features seem a bit too good to pass up, but we're wondering how to get all our existing FBX animation data into 3DS short of purchasing PolyTrans. Looking forward to it of course, and appreciate all of Lioric's hard work  .

They have a free FBX importer/exporter for Max. I use MotionBuilder myself, and transfer the data back and forth all the time. Great stuff.

Well, an exporter isn't much use unless you've got something to run the result on either. :) But I understand your point - both are important.

I'm lucky

Post by sanfir »

I guess I wont add much by saying that if this plugin is only half what I anticipate, then its going to be amazing.

I'm feel so lucky that I'm a new user to Ogre and only read this post when the release date is really close. I didnt have to wait all that time for the long waited release. :D

Lioric you're doing a great job. If this goes as expected, you'll name will definetly be added to the credits of any humble project we might produce.
Thanks

I don't think we are talking about the same exporter :)

You will know when it's released... it will be a big head line on the Ogre main page at least...
