The plug-in looks great! It indeed saves months and months of work for many MAX users… I can’t wait for the release date, can just hope it will be an xmas gift ;).

IMO the best way to test fully test the project is to release beta versions to community :D.

Happy holidays!
I hope that helps a bit...

Yeh I agree we will find a lot of issues and things we want it to do.
But beta testing is a good process. It helps the developers to listen better to the few testers.

Haha, :)

Talked yesterday to Lioric, it'll be released after the holiday. Currently they're reviewing the tutorials and other documentation.

Just have patience a little while, this is gonna be really nice.

Well the holiday is mostly over for me ;P. I'm so eager to actually use this thing I created a forum account just to tell you.

Sadly I have spent many weeks creating, rigging, and animating my characters in 3dsmax 8 only to find that I cannot export them to OgreXML format (nor can I downconvert them to 3dsmax 7).

So really, you are my last hope, thank you for all the effort you have put into this endeavor and I pray for a speedy release!

Hmmm before you go to all that trouble make sure something like it will export at all to Ogre.

There are things that might not exports at all.

Like parametric morphing for biscepts etc.
Where the elbows axis can control the morphing of a part of the mesh.

A really cool feature that I would like to see suported in Ogre and in an exporter...but sadly isn't supported.

Well hopefully we see soon what works and what not.

CVS already has a fix to make the existing exporter work in Max 8, you should search the forum.

Just sounds like a useful rigging tool to me, to make it easier for the artist to set joints up properly; doesn't sound like anything that can't already be exported to the general skeleton format. If it's not mappable to skeletal deformation then might not be a practical realtime feature anyway. But in any case, anything Max-specific won't make it in unless someone with Max decides to add it. You can dream all you like but unless you're willing to help make it happen, dreaming is all it is. Take a leaf out of Lioric's book and get your hands dirty if you want something done in 3DS.

For example, Dagon includes quite a few new animation features but the chances are that only XSI and Blender will support them initially. Support in other modellers will only appear when people who own them pitch in.

Yes true. We should be happy if the exporters supports whatever Dagon can do.

I was just saying that not all riggs are exportable.
And before you wast a lot of time you better make sure you can eport it and use it.

It will be intresting to see if we can contribute to Lorics exporter later.
I for will use other packages to export morphing until the 3dsmax supports it. But I will use 3dsmax for everything else.

I finally have the news we all need to hear. So good is this news, that you have two choices of which news you choose.

Option A: It will be done "in two weeks", *OR*

Option B: It will be done "when it's done".

Should you choose option A, just remember that in two weeks when you ask again if it is ready yet or not, the answer will be "in two weeks". Unfortunatley you can not get your money back and choose option B instead. (*)

((*) Judges decision is final. No correspondence will be entered unto. Spoken by Some Dude. Authorized by Oh Noes That Idiot!.)

--

In other words, shush now, don't ask. Everytime you ask adds two eeks (edit: and two weeks) on to the finish time. Wait.

And of course, the final piece of the humor will be Lioric announcing in the next post that it's done...

"GASP! The exporter went gold!" -enthusiastic believer

"Oh no, that's just copper" -Lioric

[wimper wimper, sob sob, tear] -entusiastic believer

"Don't worry just 2 more weeks!" -Lioric

"O-o-kay" -enthusiastic believer

"Oh wait, sorry, 2 more weeks until it goes Beryllium" -Lioric

"Well then how long until it goes gold?" - no longer enthusiastic pseudo-believer

"Well, let me think. There's iron, bronze, silver, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, brass, glass, hydrogen, helium, lithium, plutonium, Radon, Green, Blue, Yellow, Orange, Purple, Magenta, Pink, Crimson, Red, Blue-Green, Sky-blue, Purple-Orange, Orange-berry, Strawberry Mango, and Pina collada before it goes Gold."

[blink, blink, blink blink] -no longer enthusiastic non-believer

"So that'd be 60 weeks before gold is released" -Lioric

[staring with two differently sized gaping eyes] -no longer enthusiastic non-believing soon to be assassin

"Plus 2 more weeks because you asked about when it was coming out" -Lioric

[eyes bloodshot, a bulging vein is now the very topmost point of the head, nostrils flared] "Fine then, back to painting my warhammer 40k minis" -enlightened and now infinitely more wise former believer and enthusiast

"Oh I forgot one other thing, I'm taking a 6 month vacation next week." -Lioric

Maybe we could keep this thread a bit less like Open Mic Night at the Improv. :?

If nothing else I think the jokes are becoming offensive to Lioric, who is actually putting in the work for this tool. I understand that everyone, including my team, is anxious for a release but there is a fine line between inquiry and pestering.

I hope the exporter will be out soon, last time I checked was a month ago and yet no news, hoping the delay is for a reason ( surprise or something? )
