Hi,

I'm new to this and already have a problem :(

I downloaded and installed the ac3d->ogre plugin, then ran ac3d. When it tries to load plugin i get a message :

"A device attached to system is not functioning"

Any ideas about what problem is ?

ty in advance,

griff :)

You are probably using the wrong version of ac3d.
Check on Monsters site.

Sorry. I'm a bit busy at the moment.

The "A device attached to system is not functioning" message is, as far as I know, nothing to do with the Ogre plugin. Do all the other AC3D plugins work? Do you still get this message even if you don't try to load the Ogre plugins, but do load the standard ones?

The version of the exporter that's available from my web-site should be compatible with AC3D4, me and several other people have been using it for a while.

If you want a version that's compatible with AC3D5 you can get one via this secret link;

Hi monster : Ty for reply :)

As far as I know, when the message :

"A device attached to system is not functioning"

appears it usually means that some dll is not being found. For example something created with VB6 might require part(s) of VBRUN600 (eg MSVBVM60.DLL)

Removing the three files from AC3D that your exporter installed (1 .p in plugins directory, 2 .tcl in tcl directory) and the message disappears when AC3D starts (version 4). All other plugins appear to work fine even when I get the *message* ;-)

So my guess is that the "OgrePlugin.p" is looking for something .... but I have no idea what ... some dependency of some kind.

I figured you would be the guy who would know ;-)

Ty for posting link to updated version .... I actually found it yesterday when browsing your website looking for contact info ... but I'm sure others will be pleased .... 59 ppl viewed my original post .... so somebody must be interested ;-)

As I have not been able to get it to work, I have not been able to try out the other feature that intrigues me ... the heightfield producer. If this will work with a greyscale map then ppl might be interested in Scapemaker (Windows only ... but free):

Ty in advance for any help

What OS are you running, and what service packs?

It is running on a machine using Win98SE.

Err, OK. That's probably your problem. Your OS isn't compatible with the C runtime DLLs shipped with the exporter.

I don't know if it's possible to update Win98 to get it up to a reasonably recent patch level, or whether it's possible to get compatible updated system DLLs. If you run the exporter (just change the .p file to .dll, that's what it is basically) and the runtime DLLs through the Dependency Walker then it should tell you which bits of your system need updating.

Failing that, upgrade your OS!

Ty Monster :)

I did as you suggest .... all the necessary OS dlls are present just not functioning the way they need to :(

There seem to be 4 of them ... one of which over the years has changed dramatically .... so I'm looking for a version I can install.

As for the OS ... well, I have a laptop and another desktop with XP ... but my hobby machine is Win98 .... and I've built a lot of 3d on it :)

If you have the Blaxxun or Bitmanagement VRML viewer installed the maybe you want to have a look at :

http://www.3dworlds.ca/web3d/index.htm

which will explain why I am interested in the AC3D exporter ;-)

Guess I will have to use my work machines to test the exporter ;-)

I will let you know if I get it running on Win98 :)

Ty again,

griff :)
