i am just curious if there would be an interest for model packs in the ogre community. for example collections of some fully textured and animated characters which come in ogre and blender (so you can add your own animations or do other changes if necessary) format for a small amount payable with paypal? or bigger packs which additionally contain some level geometry so a programmer would have everything to get started?
i found this statement by wumpus:
Free advertising is not allowed on the forum, unless you want to pimp something that's specifically made with or for Ogre.
so does this mean if the models come in ogre format i could announce them on the ogre forum?
If you decide to develop your packs feel free to place a post in the News section of the Pelican Crossing forum, I'm sure there will some Blink 3D users who would be very interested. http://www.pelicancrossing.com/forum/index.php
The problem with places like turbosquid and others is that most of the time when I grab a model from there, it's not appropriate to something like ogre. Either the polycount is insane, it's for a 3d program I don't have, or it uses features which aren't handled by the ogre exporters. A model which is already exported, tested, textured, etc for ogre and can just be put in the resource path and used immediately would be much nicer.
As for payment, if they are good quality models then it sounds fair. There would need to be some good info on them (screenshots, polycount, maybe movies or at least animated gifs of the animations) before buying though.

Had a look at our page (see my sig)?
At least all models are game size and in a open filetype, plus they are available with a free licence.
Actually, I started setting up a page/system/database for this of which I should be done by tomorrow or possibly tonight. Basically it would show a screenshot with links to the download and/or video files of the mesh in action.
Turboquid has alot of models no doubt.....but I'd really like to see a central place for Ogre meshs that are "ready to go". So, I thought I'd set one up. If people use it, great......if not, oh well, I'm only out an afternoon's time.
Oh yeah...and the most important thing......no freaking ads and popups like alot of model sites have for "free" stuff.
Well, I setup a quick thing on my site at www.spootsworld.com which only has a few models on there right now. All it is is a photogallery with download links but should work out ok.
