Post by onamoue »

hi all,

My problem is that i just installed ogrexporter for maya 7 ( I think i did it correctly, i checked ) but i just can't find the Ogreexport menu anywhere...

As there is no help or doc file with the original file, i hope someone will help me.

i already tried type "ogreExport" in the dialog box , but it then maya bugs and shut itself down.

Read the forum rules, please. DO NOT BUMP POSTS.

If no one answers, then no one knows, and you certainly need to wait more than an hour for an answer. You can also search the site, the forums and the Wiki (as well as a simple Google search) to see if you can find the answer there. Also #ogre3d on IRC (FreeNode network, irc.freenode.net).

For example, a simple search on the Wiki turns up:

Just wait for a Maya user to help you out.

I am not using Maya so I don't know the answer to your question.

I don't use Maya. I did a fast search and it took me right to where the usage information is for that exporter. The Maya exporter is not well-maintained (if at all) and your results may vary in many ways for any number of reasons.

If you are going to use Maya for modelling and don't want to wait, you have the option of importing your model file into another tool such as Blender and re-exporting from there.

LOL stay away from Max, it's the DEVIL!!!! ;)

Once youve extracted all the files in the right place, start maya and go into Window-> Settings/Preferences -> Plugin Manager and scroll till you see OgreExport.mll. Check both boxes and it'll autoload for you.

....That's it! ;)

Uhm, well if it doesn't load properly (AKA, you have the incorrect version, maybe for 6.5?) Maya will tell you in the status bar area. It will colour it and say "can't load, compiled against old version" or something similar...

There aren't any error messages or anything? 'Cause the binaries straight off ogre3d.org work perfectly if they're extracted to the right folders.

If you have everything in the right directories and have loaded the plugin correctly as Rixeh explained, you should see a menu on your main menu bar at the top that reads "Ogre". If not, the first thing to do is in your command line (at the bottom of the Maya window), type:

Code: Select all

source ogreExporter;
If this doesn't build that menu item then you did something wrong with your install. If it does work you're good to go. you can then add that line to your userSetup.mel file in your scripts directory. If the file doesn't exist, make a new one.

Hope this helps.

Are you very sure you installed the exporter to exactly the right folder? I had the same problem you have now, and in my case it was because I had overlooked part of the path in the explanation of the installation. MAYA saves its files on several positions, like in c:\program files\MAYA but also in My Documents\MAYA. You need the right one.

Hi onamoue, sorry I haven't answered sooner but I've been quite busy and forgot to check the forum for a while.
When you start maya, do you get any error message either in the script editor or in the output window?
When you try to load the plugin with the plugin manager, does maya give you any error message before crashing?
I can try to send you the correct maya 7 version of the exporter if you give me your email, just to be sure you didn't install the wrong version...

i´ve got the same problem. The plug in file is correctly loaded, but there does no menu appear when i start maya. My solution is: After you started MAYA, open the script ogreExporter.mel, that comes with the mll plugin file. then OGRE should appear in the menu bar.

I hope, you understood what I meant. If you didn´t, I can give you some screenshots from my maya version, that show you what to do.

hmm, if you add the line

Code: Select all

source ogreExporter;
to your userSetup.mll the script should be loaded automatically...

are you sure you put the ogreExporter.mel file in the Documents/maya/7.0/scripts directory together with the userSetup.mel ?

yes, I´m shure. Is it really userSetup.mll? I think, it´s userSetup.mel. Because there is no userSetup.mll in the /7.0/scripts directory.

ogreExporter Maya meny possible solution

Post by k0nstantin »

I don't know if you ever solved this but I just had the same problem. The menu did just not show up. But after a few hours I solved the problem by moving the ogreExporter files from

Program Files/Alias/Maya7.0/scripts/

to

My Documents/maya/scripts/

the menu appeared. Problem solved!

well yes, that's where you should put them in the first place,
either in the "My Documents/maya/7.0/scripts" or in the "My Documents/maya/scripts" directories. It should work in both cases
