hi,
im writing a game (just for fun, its only me working on it), and i was wondering what format i should be using for my levels? i have used .mesh for the objects (like barrels, bottles, guns, characters) but what should i use for the levels? the levels are both inside and outside.
my first thought was to use .bsp, but it seems this is not free? so if i did finish this game (highly unlikely though) i wouldnt be able to sell it if i used .bsp v3? also, it seems to me to be very complicated to export and compile to bsp? how much does it cost to yse or am i totally wrong? what tools would i need to turn a map in max 7 into a .bsp?
it has to be compatible with physics (since this game is gonna be a way for me to learn everything. so instead of having 10 different projects each demonstration a different thing i want to have 1 big project).
thanks,
Will (dynamyt / Tegro on IRC)
what format to use?

While this has been asked a lot - and you will be able to find a lot of answers here - I will suggest the following:
* Construct your level using smaller meshes, then export it as a .scene.
* In your application, if performance suffers, consider converting level geometry to static geometry.
* Consider using the dotsceneoctree scenemanager from ogreaddons.
