Create a couple extra bones for your skeleton, and use them to attach things like weapons, camera, etc.

Just a couple of quick rules for OGRE compatibility:

no more than 4 bones to a vertice

make sure envelopes are turned off

Only rotation and location animations can be exported, so do not try any scaling animations with your bones.

Forward Kinematics only. You can use IK, (I don't), but if you do, you must bake the animation first, and drop all the extra IK bones.
