Here is a sample (left eye) screen shot from a 3D medical visualization we've created using pyOgre:

The head interactively spins around on the mount rig while the slice ring moves up and down to selectively reveal the brain in cross-section. Low-res slice textures are used to keep the motion nice and smooth; we swap in a high-res slice texture when the user pauses. Cropping of the head is done by swapping in new head geometry.
Here's a scaled-down screen capture from the original 2800x1050 stereo rendering (1 viewport, 2 cameras). We display this using two co-aligned DLP projectors with passive infitec filters onto a 2m x 1.5m rear-projection screen. Viewers wear VR glasses to extract the left and right-eye views.

We'd like to thank Sinbad and the rest of the Ogre team (as well as the wider community) for making this possible. Thanks also to the pyOgre team for the excellent python bindings. In the near future, hopefully we'll be deploying an Ogre-based VR exhibit into a museum.
Cheers,
Darran.
