Render to texture and Map Size in 3dsMax 8

Post by Hansel »

Hi people ;)

I have a problem using render to texture. I need to increase the map size over 2048 but when I try to do it 3dsMax gives me an error: "Error creating Bitmap".

Anyone knows if it's possible to increase this size? I want to texturize a very, very, very, very large building

Thanks :D

Why does the map need to be so large? Can you use multiple smaller maps instead?

The entire building is a single block. Can I use smaller maps without splitting it in smaller blocks?

If you plan on using this building in Ogre, having it as a single huge mesh is a very bad idea.

How big is this thing?

[Edit: post created before you posted the pics]

Yes, that is far too big to be a single mesh.

Will it be viewed from the inside or the outside or both?

Try the dotsceneoctree plugin from ogreaddons.
Replace 655350 with FLT_MAX in SceneConverterOctreeObjects.cpp and see if that helps.
Haven't tested yet, but that should remove the big mesh limit (16 bit limit).
Make sure that the example converter utility doesn't cut it up in too small pieces. Try different values for <MaxTriPerNode> and <MaxDepth>.

Well, that's one option. If you don't feel like chopping up your model manually.
