Disc Golf Ultra DEMO

Post by Arkos »

Hey guys,

after a grueling 3 months of programming, our team has come up with something that we are ready to showcase.

Disc Golf Ultra is a 3d game based on disc/frisbee golf. It is really easy to pick up and play.

The demo has one playable character and nine holes.

We haven't tested the demo thoroughly yet, but we would love to get feedback from the Ogre community.

We just want to thank the Ogre community so much for all of your help, we couldn't have done it without you. Special thanks to the moderators and ogre team who make this all possible.

Really very sorry about the dead link, the sevice was supposed to have it up there for atleast 10 days. :x

Again here is the new link
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~howery/DiscGolfUltra.zip

I hope you enjoy the game for real this time!!!!!!!! :D

Also, sorry about the screenshots I didn't have time earlier. :(

Sorry to all those who tried to download the game and couldn't get it.

BTW: I don't know if the shortcut I put in the main folder will be relative or not so if it doesn't work, go to bin/release/Disc Golf Ultra.exe

I downloaded the game and I really liked it. It is a very good game of frisbee golf. I actually love playing frisbee golf, so I really liked how this was made.

Nice work! Just and FYI, screenshots are needed for this forum. :)

Can't figure out how to play it; but then again, I know absolutely nothing about sports, so maybe that explains it. The only kind of sports game I can play are car racing sims...
It looks pretty too, but the physics seem exactly right, though, and that, in my book, counts as more marks, in games, than all the eye candy in the world. Good job!

Yeah, don't click on the links in the main folder; go to bin.

Hello,

I was just curious about how one would go about getting his game on the featured projects page of Ogre3d.org?

Do you have to be selected or do you have to ask to get your project on there?

Thanks

Usually your project is only selected if sinbad deems it really great and worthwhile. If the game is really popular on the showcase forums, then that really helps. You can of course suggest that sinbad display your app on the Featured Projects, but I don't think there is quite enough "wow" comments yet. Just by looking at the screenshots I discovered a bug; look at DGU_4.png which has a tree at the left flying sky-high! I suggest that you release a new version even without many more features and then make a big [NEW RELEASE] feature to your subject line. That should draw other users into looking at your game and then maybe more people will download it. Personally, I think it is a great job, and maybe with a bit more work this app would be perfect for the Featured Projects!

Since Ogre is a graphics engine, the only thing that really matters is how good Sinbad thinks the screen shots show off the power of Ogre. You graphics aren't bad I don't think they standout out to much. Of course its not my decision, I haven't even played the game and couldn't create art of any quality. So take what I say with a grain of salt.

Just a thought...

Post by irrdev »

Oh, just a thought, but 35+ megs is a lot. Many people aren't willing to download a file like that. Mabe use upx(http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/upx) as a start for compressing your dlls and executable. Then maybe try using different exporters to figure out which one is the best for exporting to Ogre mesh files. Last of all use 7z(http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip) to use the 7z format for compressing your archive. 7z has a 30%-50% better compressing ratio over the zip format. I know that size alone dictates wheather people will try out your app.
