Animation marks

Post by zkam83 »

Is there a way to add some custom data at specific time in the animation track?

I need to insert some sort of marks in the animation so that the application can perform specific tasks based on the animation.

For example, when making a fighting game (e.g. Tekken), you'll need to mark the time when the punch is effective and where it's no longer effective.

I believe at least XSI does allow to mark times in the animation mixer. Wouldn't it be useful if this feature has room in the skeleton file format and Ogre itself?

In my opinion, no. That is looking a feature for your game engine, a class wrapping at the same time an Ogre::Animation or Track and your MarkTrack.

i saw that is GameBryo Engine ( which is a rendering engine basicly) ,
i liked the part where the designer can place an events on a specific frame ( like a character leg hit the ground) so you can receive the event on time and produce an accurate sound

Yeah, this has been requested before. The suggestion was the creation of a new track type which could be attached to the animation purely for raising events. It hasn't been implemented yet, patches are welcome.
