Congratulations, and some thanks

Post by sinbad »

Reviews are done, and I just wanted to say congratulations to all our successful students in the Google Summer of Code 2007:

Tim Kelsey (c4llidus) : Custom Memory Heaps and Object Allocators

Juozas Gaigalas (juozasg) - Emulating Lesser Hardware Capabilities

Brian Johnstone (Praetor) - Advanced Script Compilers

Brian Hudson (Hudson) - Material Editor

Once again it's been a fun experience and I know that OGRE will benefit a great deal from the work you've done. I hope you've enjoyed it and it's great to see you staying involved in the projects after the summer. We'll definitely be looking to incorporate the results of the summer's work in future versions of OGRE, with your help and with the collaboration of the community - there will probably be some extra tweaking and testing to do before everything can be merged but it will definitely be happening.

I'd also like to say a big 'thankyou' to all the mentors that were involved this year, whether you ended up with student projects or not your help over the summer was extremely valuable and much appreciated:

Paul Cheyrou-Lagrèze (tuan kuranes)
Andres Carrera (Lioric)
Daniel Wickert (Haffax)
Casey Borders (CaseyB)
Michael Reimpell (reimpell)
Gregory Junker (Xavier)
Jesús Alonso Abad (Kencho)

Here's to 2008! :D

In the end I haven't been very active, but it's been a great experience for me, and hope for you all as well. Thanks for letting me being part of this. If time permits, I'll be around again next year! :D

I must say all of those look very fun to work with with some brilliant results. Well done guys.

Perhaps next year, I may have the courage and sign up to be a mentor (Sinbad & Co. willing ;))

Ehm, maybe I shouldn't ask, but what became of the animation project...? I mean the IK support for skeletons...?

Unfortunately it didn't pass the mid-term evaluation and was aborted at that point.

Xavier and some chaps (I guess Tuan Kuranes too) proposed to continue the project on their own. I'd join them but time won't allow me that this course :(
