IMOW needs team members!

A place for employers, project leaders etc to post if they are looking for people to assist with an Ogre-based project. Please only post in this area if you have a _serious_ project proposition for which you already have something to show for.

IMOW needs team members!

Post by Project Ura »

Hello there!

Project Ura is comprised of a group of friends with a common dream. We would like to create and run an Online RPG. When we started, we were armed with a few ideas, and basically no skills. But with persistence and the help of friends, we've learned an awful lot.

So, down to business...

About a month ago, we came to the question of what engine to use. We had been working with Crystal Space before to test our models, but after some research, we decided OGRE could be what we were looking for. We are aware that OGRE alone is NOT a game engine. But we are also aware that OGRE can be made into a game engine with the right components. This is precisely what we would like to do. So we're looking for coders who could help us accomplish this goal, and most importantly, have fun doing so.

Now to the good stuff..

I'll show you a few screenies of the first town we've started on -- a small fishing town called Morgendil. Here's a screenshot of the lighthouse and the tavern in the distance on a foggy day.

Image

Of course, near the center of town, we find the Town Hall:

Image

Anchored to the port you would find some boats, as well:

Image

And what is a town without some people?

Image

Everything shown here is 100% our own. We modeled and textured everything. We have a group of solid 3D and settings developers however we are lacking coders. If anyone is at all interested, please feel free to comment here, PM us, join us in IRC on freenode at #ura-dev, or email me at rolexwatch@aol.com.

More info can be found at our website: http://ugo.sinet.it/ura and our forums at http://forum.trinityreign.com (REALLY updated link :) )

We all hope to hear from you soon!

Hey guys!

So far we've had a great response, but we've received one or two emails that we can't reply to because they say the email addresses don't exist, or something similar.

If you've sent us an email and not received a reply yet, them please resend it from another email. We'd love to be able to consider everyone who responds, so please make sure you resend any emails. Thanks again!

Hello there,

I'm Yill, a 3-D Blender developer for Project Ura. We've got some great respons on our project and have recruited new 3-D developers and a new concept artist and even an experienced coder. We're all enthusiastic and developing at a decent speed in a fun, young team. Our numbers grew to 11 teammembers. However, more coders are still needed so keep responding :) If you;re just interested in our progres, or like to make an ocasional contribution in the form of code, stories, ideas or art, we'd welcome you in our IRC channel at irc.freenode.net in #ura-dev

Currentely we're modeling the surrounding of the city seen in the previous posts. Here's part of a forest that will be right next to that city. A big, mysterious forest it will be. Please ignore the funky floor texture, it will be changed, and more vegetation aswell as some geometry will be applied to make it look more forest-ish. Enjoy :)

Hey guys.

First off, i just wanna say that we got a good response from these and a couple other forums, so thanks for the interest.

Just wanted to bump this and update a bit. We have a basic client set up, with basic login and chat.

We're working on getting the art in the client, and we know that we'll need more coders to lighten the load for the few that we have so far. If anyone is interested, you can email me at RolexWatch@aol.com or find us on our forums: http://forum.trinityreign.com

Here's one of the first screenies i took of our working chat system. Nothing great to show you.. but you know, we were excited. :)

I look forward to hearing from you all, and again, thanks for the support!

To each their own is exactly right. We want to have the inputs customizable to the player's specific liking. The conversation you see there is only a tiny fraction of what we actually talked about. I made the mistake of saying "delete" instead of "backspace" so i was just clarifying, but yeah, the point is to have things be flexible and open to change.

Well, we've got our forums back up. They're pretty bare since we lost our previous info for the old forums, but we're working on getting them up and running.

I just wanted to mention that we've clarified our goals a bit. Our Project is actually geared towards creating what we call an IMOW or Immersive Multiplayer Online World. The main reason for this clarification is to really separate ourselves from many of the games out there that don't provide much entertainment for the average Player. We also think it represents our commitment to a strong and close-knit Roleplaying community, and on maintaining a highly immersive experience.

Anyways, more about that can be read on our forums: http://forum.trinityreign.com

In other news, we're doing well with programmers, but we could always use another warm body. We'd also REALLY like to find a texture artist.

If anyone has any interest, questions or comments, feel free to let me know either here, through PM, Email, or the previously listed forums. We're also on IRC, for the information, check the previous post or two.

My email is projectura@hotmail.com

Thanks again!

Hello everyone, a small update from my side. I'm Yill, head of art for our project.

Our 3 coders are doing a great job building a stable OGRE client and work for an In Game editor is in progress. We have started character animations and the very first walk cycle is in place.

However, we are still looking for more people to strengthen our stable team. We could do with another c++ coder for our in game editor. A GUI artist to take over that job from one of our coders and from me, making a slicker looking GUI. 3D artists, grab this chance to learn, teach and get your models In a Game. Nothing beats walking arround in your home-made cathedral, I kno that much by now. And our biggest gap, the 2D appartment. We are creating the base of a Card Game that will be one of many features project Ura has to offer. We need a load of concept art as well as decent textures for our models. Same counts for you guys, nothing is cooler then seeing your art in a game, and walk arround in it.
Here's a little something extra to cheer up the post. A piece of concept art, a monster called a Creye, that'll one day become one of the more dangerous enemies.
Image

No matter how you contribute, your art will be protected by a CC license and you will be credited, always. Thanks again for your time all!

Ura game and code information.

Post by lvlnx »

Hiya All :). I'm cig one of the coders for the wonderfully interesting world of Ura.
Currently I am working on increasing the quality of the code layout and on stablizing the core of the code.
We have a Server/client, map, character who walks, buddylist, menubar and a chat window.
Our game uses CEGUI ( I love the simpsons proffesor...hehe) Ogre3d, sqlite and ode at the moment.

Nothing is set in stone because we are still doing tons of planning,
Trying out new concepts, new libraries :) and new creative ideas.

If you feel like you want to be part of something great (while having fun)
and you have a talent then come talk to us on irc at "ura-dev".

Talents can range from settings, art, 3d, creativity, code,....ect. :)

One more update...

We're actively searching for a MySQL Programmer. Anyone who would be comfortable building, organizing and maintaining a database should be what we're looking for.

As always you can contact me at easton@trinityreign.com or you can contact us through our website: www.trinityreign.com

Of course, any other contributors are welcome. :)

Hey all,

we're making quite a bit of progress lately. The IG editor is nearly finished and the city models are increasing. i figured I'd post some of our latest work to let you all know where we're at.

Image
test for the city called Vaern, mainly to give us an idea of the look and feel of the city.

Image
a piece of one of our concept artists, this will eventually become a playable character.

Progress is being made, but we still welcome all that want to help out.

Hey everyone,

We've been making a lot of progress, but we're looking to expand our coding team by one or two people. We're looking for anyone with some experience in C#, interested in a fun, friendly and laid-back atmosphere, and enjoys seeing the fruits of their labor. We already have two coders who have been with the project for a long time, and would be willing to help you get started and updated to where our projects stands.

Speaking of where our project stands, i'll post some screenies of our in-game editor that has been progressing very well.

Lately, we've been working on texture scaling, as well as splatting and other code upgrades to the editor itself. Here are some test screenshots:

Image

Image

This next one concerns a new flatten tool we've been modifying.

Image

We've also worked on having a flexibility of quality for textures within the editor:

Anyways, we're always having fun, learning new things, and working towards big goals. We'd love for anyone who's interested to join in, even if just for a small chat, or just to learn some stuff that we can maybe help you with. Feel free to join us on IRC on freenode at #trinityreign or at our forums here:http://forum.trinityreign.com/index.php

Hopefully we hear from you soon!

Hey guys!

Well, a lot has been happening in Trinity Reign over the past few months. We've got a test map in game and are currently working on implementing a basic trade/inventory system. This will be the basis for a complex economic system that will feature in Trinity Reign.

As always, we're looking for more programmers, whether your specialty is C++, MySQL, BLOCKED, or whatever. We'll be glad to have a chat with you on our IRC channel on irc.freenode.net at #trinityreign.

We're also always looking for Art members, whether you're into 3D or 2D, we don't care! Just stop by and show us some of your stuff, if you have any.

We're still working the same fun, laid-back environment, and always looking to help people learn their trade.

If you want some more info, you can visit us on IRC, or take a peek at our forums at http://forum.trinityreign.com/index.php and our outdated (but soon to be revamped) website at www.trinityreign.com. From there you can connect to IRC directly through your browser so you don't need to download your own client.

Anyways, we hope to hear from you soon!

Just wanted to copy and paste this post from one of our devs who has been working on rigging and animating a char model since i didn't add any content with the last post.

Again, we're looking for anyone who's interested in helping, with a definite emphasis for programmers proficient in either c++ or MySQL or any knowledge of server architecture or databases.

This is the first test of the new rig.
Image

A lot of ugly to iron out. Please note here that these are TEST animations to see how the mesh folds. If you want to comment, do so on how the mesh is bending, not how the animation looks. I did not make the animations, so can't take credit if they look nice.

Next up, Pavel gets his shoulders fixed a bit, and does a bit of tumbling.

Thanks jacmoe, we appreciate the interest! :)

Anyways, i just wanted to mention to any programmers out there that our current group of guys are having a meeting to figure out some sort of plan in terms of server architecture. If you have any interest in attending this meeting, whether you just wanna sit in on it, or actively help, you can find more info here: http://forum.trinityreign.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=239

We're currently working out a good date/time and we have plenty of issues to discuss, so again, if you think this might be something you want to help out with or even if you just wanna sit in on the meeting, please feel free to attend or post some ideas.. or whatever. The more heads we have on this, the better.

As always, we're still actively recruiting people, programmers in c++, anyone with database experience, network things, any sort of art (2D, 3D, concept) etc etc.... We have a good team in place already, so you'd be joining up with a well-rounded team to begin with, so don't think you're gonna be all alone working on some massive chunk of game.

Hope to hear from you all soon!

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the interest, it seems like this thread is really paying off. :D

Unfortunately, we still haven't found a viable solution to our MySQL Database programmer problem. Recently, we've added some code that would support trade, but the main hurdle is the lack of a DB. We really don't want a "temporary solution" since we know how vital DBs are to games of this size, so if you can help us out we'd reeeaallly appreciate it.

If you are interested in helping us with programming, whether DB related or not, or if ya just wanna hang out, come visit us on IRC. We're on freenode at #trinityreign. We've also got a sourceforge at https://sourceforge.net/projects/ura-game/

Thanks for your time!

Hey guys and gals,

So, what's new in Trinity Reign? Well, quite a bit in fact. First off, we've started to use the NeoAxis engine to test our art assets since for most of the past couple months or Lead Programmer has been swamped by the mythical RL monster. Because of that, our sever hasn't been up and we had no way of testing new art assets. So, we were directed to NeoAxis, and that's what we've been using recently. This works great for us because we can test our art and make maps, and anything we make can easily be ported back into our own editor/server when they're back up and running. This way we're not wasting any time.

Here are some screenshots. Please note that not EVERYTHING seen here was created by us. Some of it came with the NeoAxis editor, and we just placed those things in for testing purposes. While i can't list every thing that is ours and theirs, i can say that obviously, the bunny character and the gui are not ours. The windmill also isn't ours. Every other building is ours. If you want to know specifics about what is ours and isn't, just PM me and i'll answer any questions you might have.

Image

Image

Image

The whole situation however highlights a certain problem, and that is lack of programming support. This is something we'd definitely like to remedy. We've got a wonderful, dedicated, close-knit team that works (and plays) quite hard. So if we could get just a couple more people to help out with the vast programming duties, things would be moving quite faster, and smoother.

What we're looking for:
  • *anyone capable with C++
*anyone who feels competent in Network programming
*anyone who knows MySQL and/or DB stuff
*anyone who could be a web developer (our website is god-awful.)
If you have any of these skills, and are at all interested, please shoot me an email at easton(at)trinityreign(dot)com. You can also peruse our forums at http://forum.trinityreign.com/ Of course, our primary mode of communication is IRC. We're on irc.freenode.net on channel #trinityreign. For your convenience, our website has an embeded IRC client at http://trinityreign.com/irc/. Just fill in the info, and connect.

I hope to hear from some people soon! And as always, thanks for your time!

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to bump this thread a bit because we're starting to recruit again. Life has been a bit busy for a few of us, so we've been taking a pseudo-hiatus for a bit, though we were still making progress. Now, we're looking to start things back up into full-swing. A bit of detail as to what we already have:

We have a basic client, with chat, movement, very basic inventory, stuff like that. We're currently working on a new version of our terrain system (SPT3, thanks to HexiDave). It will be ridiculously powerful and is currently in development. We have a ton of settings, lore, NPC plans, history, and all that good stuff. We have enough art for a about a small town and about half of a second small city (seen in some of the above posts). We have one rigged and animated char model (seen in development in some above posts).

What we're looking for:
  • *anyone capable with C++
*anyone who feels competent in Network programming
*anyone who knows MySQL and/or DB stuff
*anyone who could be a web developer (our website is god-awful.)
*2D or 3D artists looking to pad their portfolio (our license is CC so it's win-win)
We have a great team of very good friends -- most of us have met in person at one point, or plan to in the near future. We hang out in IRC, we make fun of each other, say politically incorrect things, and just generally banter on and on. We're looking to grow this group of people who have a ton of fun making something that, in our eyes, is really awesome. So if you wanna hang out and maybe help us out while learning a thing or two, just hop on IRC and introduce yourself. Tell your friends, tell your mom, tell your teachers, tell your sister (seriously, tell her).

Where to find us: irc.freenode.net #trinityreign

What is Trinity Reign?

Great question!

Trinity Reign has really been in the works for years, but it didn't officially start until the middle of 2007. It all began with a group of friends who had absolutely no experience in any subject related to game design. We were interested in a small story about a city named Vaern that was essentially co-written by a couple of members. After a few experiences with some other online RPGs and some heavy deliberation, we decided to embark on a huge, possibly never-ending, and slightly insane journey of creating our own Immersive Multiplayer Online World (IMOW). This world would take all of the positives from the various games that we have shared and enjoyed, attempt to remove all of the negative aspects, and add some of our own innovative ideas. In short, we would attempt to make what we thought should not be considered merely a game, but instead, a world.

So, after months of research, trial and error (lots and lots of error), new friends, and a ridiculous amount of good times, we saw a steady project come together and we called it, Ura. (this name of course, has now officially changed to Trinity Reign)

Trinity Reign wishes to bring together a very close-knit and open-source community composed of a unique variety of RolePlayers and gamers alike. We hope to provide a vibrant, minutely-detailed, incredibly in-depth, and self-sufficient world for this community to thrive in. The environment of Trinity Reign will lend itself greatly to roleplay and we hope to supplement that with many GM events and various other in-game mechanics.

As far as we're concerned, ANYONE can contribute to the Project. If you have this great idea for a monster and you can draw a bit and write a paragraph or two about it, then by all means send it in! Everything is accepted and greatly appreciated, but we cannot guarantee that everything will make it in-game; but that definitely shouldn't stop you from trying, seriously.

Basically, this Project is absolutely first and foremost about having a good time. If you're not having fun, then something isn't right. We hope to bring unlimited amounts of fun to anyone and everyone associated with this world. Please feel free to ask any questions about the Project. Until then, I personally look forward to gaming with you all!

Have fun,

Hey guys!

Just wanna give a quick update on Trinity Reign for those who are following...

Basically, we've received a lot of interest lately, and we can finally say that for the time being, we're pretty good on the programming side of things. For now, we have 2-3 guys working on the Network/server architecture, we have one guy building the insane terrain editor, which you all will hear about at a later date i'm sure, and another guy working on a sort of tree/rock generator. The terrain editor will also serve as the basis for our client and other dev tools.

So we're pretty proud of those guys for helping us out and fitting right in. We're all having a blast.

Basically, all we're looking for now are a couple of artists. We already have two very good artists who are working hard, but it's a big world, and we could use some help. So if you're at all competent in 2D (textures or concept art) or 3D (we use Blender, but any LEGAL program is fine) we'd love to hear from you. You can email me at easton@trinityreign.com or you can join us on IRC at irc.freenode.net on channel #trinityreign.

We're also working on a new website which should be up in the near future. So keep an eye out for that, if you'd like.

Thanks again for all of the interest, and feel free to join us on IRC to join in the discussions, regardless of your ability to develop the game! Talk to you all soon!

Alrighty, well it's been a while since we last updated this thread, so here's a bit of an update.

What's new? Well, we've been plugging away at our terrain engine and should have it alpha released by the end of this month (December 2011). It's really looking great and has already exceeded expectations. In the mean time, we've refined our world map and created a pretty nice looking one. More on that later.... On the 3D side of things, we've kept some progress going on our art assets, mainly with character models. We've also revamped our website, and though it is under some heavy construction, we think it's definitely headed in the right direction and a vast improvement over our last site.

So things are looking good for us, and we're pretty happy about that. But as with all projects, we have areas that we'd like to improve -- most notably in the Art department. We'd love to have a few more artists, both 2D and 3D. 2D art has always been our weak spot since the beginning, and that includes both concept and texture artists. We could also use a dedicated Web dev. Far too often we've had to take time away from programming to tinker with the site, and that isn't an efficient way of doing things. So having someone who enjoys web development while being competent and capable in various aspects of that department would be very valuable to us. We promise to keep you busy!

So, what we're looking for:
  • *2D artists (both concept and texture artists)
    *3D artists
    *Web Developer (competent and dedicated)
How to reach us: The best way to reach us is via IRC. That is our main method of communication, and thus your best chance at getting in contact with some of the developers. We generally hang out in #trinityreign on irc.freenode.net. If you have no idea what i'm talking about, then go here: http://webchat.freen...ls=trinityreign and it'll connect you right to us. If you have any major issues, feel free to email me at easton(at)trinityreign.com or just drop me a PM on this site.

Now for the goodies... Here are some screenshots and videos of some stuff we've recently made. If you'd like to see more, come visit us on IRC.

Just letting everyone know that we are, in fact, still around.

We've been working much slower for the past few months, mainly due to stupid responsibilities, but we're picking stuff up again and looking to hit the ground running.

Our lead programmer is still working hard on our engine and editor. We already have a tree generator to help with building the actual world as now we won't have to model and place every single tree on our pretty large continent.

Our settings team has been plugging away at creating a lot of the background story for the world of Ura. We've also been working on some introductory novellas to help introduce some people to the settings and maybe even generate some revenue later on down the road.

We have, yet again, revamped our website, and i'm thinking this time we're happy enough with this one to keep it updated for a while. You can find it here: http://www.trinity-reign.com

Anyways, we're still looking for artists (both 3D and 2D). If you have any interest, feel free to stop by our site and get in contact with us. All the information you need can be found there.

Thanks again for your time, and i look forward to speaking with you soon.
