GUI dialogs

Post by akem321 »

Hi,

It' s not really a feature request, but i think it would be nice
if we could build Ogre without any GUI dialogs support, like
adding a "none" type to the --with-gui=type flag, it would need
just a little tweaking in the build system/sources, i had to do this
for my own project already to build a static version without gtk
or anything else.

What do you think?

AFAIK it's already the case : if you don't use any GUI, it will not use any.

Are you talking about the config dialog? Or maybe the window provided by ogre on demand?

yea, I' m talking about the config dialogs(external GUI), the one used for samples for example,
where you choose video modes etc, actually i think there' s no way to build Ogre without that,
which can be anonying because of dependancies.
It' s not that important, but just to know

?

Just don't call showConfigDialog.

It has no dependencies; I don't really understand what you are talking about.
Do you need help? What have you tried?

I think what he really meant is the ability to build OgreMain.dll without/with the said dialog box and this is done by compile options etc. This is similar to wxWidget where we can specify which components get built and this is all done within one single header file.

I think this is nice feature, so we can get rid of things not needed, but not really important (as the OT said anyway)

Just like syedhs said.

xavier, on windows there are no extra dependencies when Ogre is
configured to use the win32 API directly, which is i guess the default GUI
type on windows, but it' s not the case on linux or other OSes.
For example here, if i do a static build i need to choose one GUI type and
even if i don' t use configDialog at all, i would need to link unused libraries,
because of few symbols, and not just that but they are sometimes big and
have other dependencies themselves

I did a little patch to add a "nogui" option to the --with-gui flag,
it does use standard console I/O instead. It may be usefull to few
non-windows users, or maybe not, i dunno :)

One would have better chances to find it on the forum.
