I've got one question about Quadro FX Graphic Card. I'm planning to buy a notebook. Through my university, I can get some discount on DELL Workstation (Precision M6300), these notebooks are shipped with Quadro FX 1600M or 3600M graphic card.
With this notebook, I'm planning to do some development, some gaming and a bit of 3D modeling.
I know that these graphic cards are more oriented toward professional work and thus not really optimized for gaming, but I wanted to know if they can be used to for this purpose without too much problems ? If some of you have already played games with Quadro Graphic Card, I'll be glad to have your feedback
Hardware-wise the 1600M approximatly is equal to a Geforce 8700M and the 3600M equals a 9800M GTX. You certainly don't really need these professional cards. The difference between Quadro FX and consumer cards is the driver software, which e.g. has optimizations for things like CAD.
Yes, you can use these cards for gaming. But I'd suggest looking into notebooks with Geforce cards. Unless you get a lot discount through your university that should be cheaper.
Basically I was looking for a notebook with correct gaming capability and a least a 8700m, but I wanted a 17'' screen... so I thought a 8800m would be a better choice.
So, I searched what I can find... I found some companies who sell computer with 8800m (for example rockdirect.com), but since I didn't know them, I don't really know what to think about and since DELL is a well-know company, I thought it would a better choice to buy a notebook by them.
After looking what I can found for students, I found the Precision M6300 with the 3600m (8800m-based) and which have a similar price to other notebooks with 8800m.

I have a Quadro NVS in my DELL work machine but I havent done any 3D work here. My experiance and gut feeling is that cards geared towards applications and Cad packages should generally be avoided if you are a gamer who likes prettier and smoother graphics
Anyway, I really posted to say that Rock Direct is absolutely outstanding! I bought an Xtreme CTX a couple years ago - the laptop is fantastic quality, but I was also very pleased with the service from Rock Direct. Dont be afraid to go with a Rock laptop over Dell if you find something in your budget!
Just bear in mind that laptops / notebooks built with higher-end graphics cards suck battery juice like no ones business.

It's the same hardware as Geforce and the drivers are also the same except for optimizations for certain software. Take a look at the NVidia driver release notes, you can use a Quadro for playing games just like a Geforce.
Look for it you want even bigger screen.
