Java and COLLADA

I have been writing/maintaining a Java servlet to produce kml for Google Earth based on a live data feed. GE is instructed to poll periodically for updates (adds, deletes, changes). The data involved is very high level so 2D representations are usually sufficient. However, there is a class of information that absolutely requires 3D, hence this appeal for help.
I suppose I could hand code the COLLADA output myself, but I'm lazy and would just prefer a library that I could hand a geometry definition to and get a text buffer back containing the output. My own personal bias is against things that require files to be written: the data is live, there's no reason to pollute the disk other than for caching.
Since this is a commercial product, I have to be careful about the licensing. LGPL, BSD, MIT and Artistic are already pre-approved. GPL2 and 3 are in the "hell no" category. Commercial liscensing is a possibility, but only for a stable product with clear documentation. Bonus points for a free downloadable developers' kit.
Google has found the following:
JCollada
GPL3
Project Whoola
AFL3 (Artistic Free License. wtf?), looks like it hasn't been updated since 2006
And a few in Alpha/abandoned state.
So, did I miss something obvious?
