Remember when Saddam challenged Bush to a duel?

Post by johnhpus »

Some time before the invasion Saddam challenged Bush to settle their differences with a duel. He said that it could be one on one, or a team against a team, and that both would have to agree to be bound by the outcome of the match. Saddam offered that it was entirely up to Bush what format, weapons, etc. and that he wanted to save the people Iraq from the cost of an American invasion.

Of course Bush couldn't actually accept. But oh man, if he had, he would have cemented such a different place in history. Imagine the pride you could feel in a leader who would literally put his own life on the line and participate in a proxy battle to save the people the cost of war.

Anyway, yeah, it would have illegal for him to put himself into danger like that and blah, blah. But legalities haven't held in check much since then. He could have played all of this very differently.

Bush can still earn his place in history, if he accepts the challenge for a duel by.. Gregory GOrDon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wx9x5kjVO5A

Go ahead and paste a few tens of thousands of dead Iraqis and Americans and you'll have a better representation of "how it worked out".

I think your animated gif is incredibly crass, btw, but it's quite amusing if you imagine he's just riding a pogo-stick.

It's a special production of Iraqi bungee jumping!

I threw it up because the topic was a bit silly, having a duel between Bush and Hussein. Given the fitness that Mr. Bush exhibits, things may not have gone as Hussein expected... I bet his greatest exercise was climbing the gilded stairway in his palace to find which cutie had been set aside for his nocturnal delights.

Yeah, the topic was about an idea that was definitely silly. But it really was offered by Saddam, and though almost unthinkable, it was an opportunity to have been one of most revered presidents ever.

Also, yeah, my money would have been on Bush, considering Saddam's age. And team vs. team, there would never have been any doubt.

Don't include me in the tasteless category, I certainly didn't approve of it.
