Prayers, chants, whatever for Sinbad's back

Because we all love Ogre...and its Sinbad's baby, lets have an intervention for his recent injury.

May your back heal quickly and painlessly, Sinbad!

Thanks!

It's going to be a long process though - it's degenerated over a few years now and only since I was temporarily hospitalised have I realised that I really need to tackle it properly. That means less time at the keyboard, which means less time for Ogre unfortunately (along with less time for everything else that involves sitting at a desk too). But, I'm still going, albeit at a reduced capacity for a while.

I wish you a speedy recovery!

Never had serious back pain myself, but the back pain I've had sometimes is already bad-enough, it can really stop you from doing anything. I've heard from some people that swimming has helped them a lot to reduce the problems with their backs.

An idea is to replace the keyboard with voice-detection software ;) just say it out loud to the computer what you want it to do! :) Just kidding. Imagine coding Ogre3D by spelling all the code. Actually that could be quite an interesting experiment.

Best wishes from me, too!

I know a man who workes at a "stand desktop" because of his back pain.
He only sits for a few minutes per day and stays the rest of the time.

Good recovery! :)

My wife is suffering from back problems.
If she is lazy or stressed and neglect working out, her back is telling her to get the cork out.
Regular exercise is crucial.
Most people might be able to shirk away and be lazy, but back patients can't afford to do so.

So Sinbad: Don't let Ogre stand between you and working out. :)

My mother has suffered with back problems since childhood. I don't have much to suggest, other than something she bought recently called BackMagic from QVC.

http://www.qvcuk.com/ukqic/qvcapp.aspx/ ... .UKHB-UK28

It not only relieves the strain on your back, it helps the muscles, relieves tension and even improves your posture. She couldn't do without it. Would also be useful in the long term to prevent further injuries if you return 'to the desk'.

Anyway, best of luck with your recovery. :)

so sorry to hear that.

Maybe programmers should love themselves first, not the code.

However, take care and recover soon.

Hi,

I get a sore back every now and then. If it's a muscle thing, I find yoga/pilates/stretching really, really helps. Also I get my daughter to walk on my back to, she's only 9.

Oh, and ignore your friends who say your a weiner for doing yoga, the relief is worth it.

Yoga FTW! I used to be a little plumpy back in 2007. I went for a vacation to India (that's where I'm from, lotsa relatives there), and did a bit of yoga everyday. Came back much better-looking. :) My grandparents have been doing yoga everyday since a very long time, and they're really active fun guys. When I'm on vacation and go around with my grandma, some people mistake think she's my mother!

Yoga can definitely help, not just your back but many other things. I've known plenty of old folks who did yoga, and don't even seem old. Their level of activeness usually trumps mine...

Out of curiousity, how are you faring now Sinbad? A hurt back certainly takes time.

Thanks for asking, slowly getting better I think. I have good days and bad days, and sometimes it's hard to predict which I'll have. I'm working mostly standing up now, since working in a sitting position for 10-12 hours a day is what I think has most of the damage in the first place. It lets me work a bit more without hurting myself, which is good :) I have a daily exercise regime to keep up, which has to be done carefully since going crazy can actually make it worse.

I'm under no illusions that this is going to take a long time to get better, if indeed it can ever get entirely better (which is doubtful). My advice to others is not to sit at a desk for 100+ hours a week for several years!

Hope you feel better Sinbad. I would take some time off if I were you, you have already done more than your fair share for OGRE.

Not only is Sinbad having some down-time. Looks like the entire Ogre domain has too, recently.

Yeah, I hate these hackers and spammers.

Even on my site which is minimal in comparison, I have had the occasional attack here and there. So, I would hate to imagine how many attack attempts there would be on a site of this magnitude.

Sinbad, if there is anything I can do to help get things back on track. Let me know.
