Re: Ogre Mascot?
@omniter: If you want help, I've always been willing to donate art to Ogre. Not sure what tools you've got there, but I love the sketches so far. If you want to make that guy as low-to-mid poly, I'd be happy to ZBrush him up for you to generate some normal maps, etc. Let me know if you're interested, otherwise good luck!

Re: Ogre Mascot?
I like the tusks/teeth being closer to the front of the mouth, they seem more useful and dangerous (in the original they wouldn't be able to bite or stab someone).
Damn, a good looking head already. It took me ages last night just to fill in the gap in the original ogre head's mouth (cap holes in 3ds max wasn't doing it right). I suck at modelling.
Of course just to get the head into max I spent hours writing from scratch an ogre to collada exporter.

That would be great, Jerky! Thanks!Jerky wrote:@omniter: If you want help, I've always been willing to donate art to Ogre. Not sure what tools you've got there, but I love the sketches so far. Yes, I'm using Blender.nikki wrote:Make it mid-poly. If it's low-poly, he'd lose his Ogre 'weight'.
And nice work! I guess you're using Blender?

Re: Ogre Mascot?
So, I took everyone's advice and made him a bit more medium-poly. This is what I have so far:
Original:

New:

As you can see, he's got nostrils now, and the groove from the nose to the lip. What do you think, guys? Smooth enough?

Re: Ogre Mascot?
That looks about right. More detail and smoother (especially the silhouette) without being heavy on the poly count.
Cool!
(But people with real art skill might think it's not enough or too much, I have no idea)

Yeah, I'd second the thing with the ears. For me, the beart (that's what it's meant to be right?) points a bit too much in the forward direction. I'd let it hanging down a bit more. Apart from that: Gret job!

I haven't gotten to those yet. They will definitely be smoothed.nikki wrote:Cool. The ears look a little too pointed though...
It's a goate. But I guess it's a bit TOO pointy. I'll fix that.spacegaier wrote:Yeah, I'd second the thing with the ears. For me, the beart (that's what it's meant to be right?) points a bit too much in the forward direction. I'd let it hanging down a bit more. Apart from that: Gret job!

Re: Ogre Mascot?
So, I think I've finished the head. I added the bandana, details to the ears, oral cavity, teeth and a tongue. It already comes up to 2522 triangles though, and that worries me. Anybody think this might be a bit too high-poly? Either way, I think it's lookin' sweet. Take a looksie!

I am impressed. It seems like you're actually making an Ogbad!

Re: Ogre Mascot?
Woah, very menacing! The head looks fantastic!
I wouldn't worry too much about the poly-count, you've got a good mesh resolution right now. (Save the simplification for later)

Got a little bored with the organic things and made the sword for a change.

Re: Ogre Mascot?
Nice. The end looks a little too straight though, in the sketch it 'bends' inward slightly. Not being critical, just helping in whichever little way I can (I suck at modelling).
Hmm... This makes me wonder. Where did the Ogre fellows get the original Ogre head from?

Epic!
It's really perfect!
I think that he should deserve more than being a shader test subject

Re: Ogre Mascot?
The head is a Troll (sometimes called Olaf), an example mesh which came with Character Studio many years ago (an alternative to that damn dancing baby).Hmm... This makes me wonder. Where did the Ogre fellows get the original Ogre head from?
He then became a commercial part of the Digimation catalog.

He's $695 for the rigged version, and $595 for a non rigged slightly lower poly version.

Re: Ogre Mascot?
Maybe I shouldn't have said how much the original currently costs until after you release your modernised version for free.
Digimation seems to charge a fair bit. Turbosquid has much higher quality meshes at lower prices.
A couple of their meshes with prices:
$895
$8995 (not a typo)
$1295
$395
$1495
Yes, that's right, they charge $1495 for an orange sphere with a black line on it!!!
WTF?
Ok, I'll stop posting crappy prices now (I've got to make a few spheres and see how much I can sell them for).
