I think it is looking top notch with the current art direction you are using.

Thanks, guys! I'm going to work on the arms and hands next. In the meantime, does anybody have any ideas for the character's footwear or lack thereof? i.e. should he be barefoot, wearing sandals, boots, or...?

Boots - Pirate's boots with a rim (rolled down) - I have no idea what's it called. Leather. With a buckle on the 'sleeve'

Really looking awesome, great progress.
Some constructive criticism regarding the sword though...

The dimensions of the sword in that last picture do look a bit off.
The length of the blade might be too short for that kind of sword (back on page 3 the length of the sword looks about right).
One further thing that has puzzled me from the beginning...
In your sketch the guard of the sword has got a very slim look, which really fits to that kind of sword, but in your model it's far thicker

Just a ref pick to illustrate what thickness I'm speaking about:

This is really just my 0.02$ on the sword, the ogre itself looks perfect

I agree: those swords are thin as razorblades.
Aren't they called cutlass'es? Smitars?

Thanks, stoneCold. Regarding the length, it is actually an optical illusion. The length of the sword has not changed since the last page. What's changed though (as I've mentioned before), is the width of the blade, and the length of the handle. I thought a sleak, thin blade might not match such a buff character as well as a broader blade would. This is also the reason I made the guards slightly thicker than in the sketch (I actually made it slightly thinner later on). However, the sword might actually be a bit too stubby looking now. I will extend the sword and see how that goes. :)

wow.
You are doing great work here. I am impressed :)

As for footwear. I would go with sandals. That guy looks a lot like he belongs on an island. What could be better for an island than sandals?

Boots might look good on him aswell, but I am not sure whether they fit the rest of the outfit quite that well.

Whatever you are going to go with, I am pretty convinced it is going to look awesome. So keep up the great work.

Scimitar, although actually it looks like a heavier one called a falchion.

Scimitars are thinner (D&D fans: The drow use them IIRC). The weapons used in the model are also called scimitars in english, though there's a different term used here (because of the hispanic arabic term al-janyar), "alfanje".

Just for references, here you can see one familiar :P http://www.swordsdirect.com/swords-sinb ... itars.html

Spectacular work :D
Do you plan to add also some animations to it, later?

PS: I second stoneCold on the sword's guard!

_tommo_, if time permits, yes. First I'll worry about finishing the model itself and texturing it. Once that's done, well... I don't think I'll be able to resist the temptation of animating him anyway. :)

I'd imagine that a sword wielded by an ogre would need to be a more heavy duty reinforced sort of one compared to what an average human would use. So the model looks about right to me.

Hmm, footwear is a tough one. Barefoot or sandals would be the most logical (probably hard to find other footwear which would fit an ogre). But boots would help keep the poly count down.

I don't think one should worry too much about poly count here :) By the way: is the way he is carrying his weapons save? Can he sit, run and jump without cutting into his buttocks?

jjp, that's a very good point. He will probably be able to run and jump without harm to his rear, but you probably won't find him sitting in a chair anytime soon, as he will probably cut the chair in half and fall on his ass. Each part of his equipment is separate and can be removed though, so you can still put him in a chair without the sheaths. :D

Maybe the swords can autofold into half so they become shorter?
