I haven't actually played any computer games in the longest time, and i'm looking for suggestions on what to buy. My favorite game in the past was Star Wars Jedi Outcast, online mode because I enjoyed the whole clan culture the game had. I liked the idea that people would set up their own servers and hang out as a clan and such. Of course it's been years since this game came out, and the online population has dropped drastically making the game less interesting. I tried Star Wars Jedi Academy which was very similar, but still it has had the same problem that it is old and has less people playing it.

I don't think I really like games that are too serious, like in modern games like halo where every match is very important to everyone. I'm looking for more of a game that is serious sometimes(like scheduled clan matches), but laid back the rest of time.

Any suggestions?

Dead Space, BioShock? They are available on console too but maybe you didn't play them.

Well, that's most of my suggestions out then. Right now I'm on my second day of playing DCS Black Shark, which is about as close to flying a real combat helicopter as most people will ever get (there's 111 pages in the manual just on how to use the map display in the helicopter, and another 129 pages labelling all the switches and gauges in the virtual cockpit).
I'm also desperately waiting for Armed Assault 2 and to a lesser extent Operation Flashpoint 2.
The Armed Assault community can be a bit scary though, many of them are ex or current military.

Ok... less serious games... For a short but awesome single player game, get Zeno Clash. The other new one I enjoyed recently was Chronicles Of Riddick Assault On Dark Athena. It has multiplayer, but last time I tried there wasn't a single server.

Ah I missed the serious part...

I've been playing Evochron Legends recently, it's a decent indie space trading and combat sim, it's set in a large universe the gameplay is quite open ended and there's quite a lot of stuff you can do, there's a central quest but you don't have to follow it. One of the coolest features of the game is that the singleplayer and multiplayer game are seamlessly integrated meaning you can play the game in singleplayer mode then hop online and carry on your game with other players maybe taking on some of the more difficult missions before going back to playing it in singleplayer mode again and all your stats and everything will be preserved.


certainly worth a look if you're into that sort of thing, the graphics aren't the latest and greatest but they don't look too shabby.

For not-too-serious team games I suggest to take a look at Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2.

Get Nexuiz. This goes to everyone on the Ogre forums. It's great fun, and works on Linux too.

Eve-online. Very very step learning curve (count 6 months) but if you get hocked you will lose all your free time
