Thanks xavier I was not really aware of the realtime encoding thing.
This 'peaks' is certainly a good news because :
the stream seems big and stable, and can be send over long distances.
Firewire : costly and short cables.
USB : depends a lot on the CPU. variation in the rate accross the vendors. Less interesting IMO.
CameraLink : professional only, costly and short cables.
DVI : never used myself.
HDMI : commercial only

HD-SDI : professional only, costly.
My personnal choice : ethernet can already be used at 10Gbits (with professional hardware only if you want to do real time industrial computer vision application). It is very low cost compared to other solution, and comes with simple solutions for fiber optics.
