[Paid] Summer Intern Wanted At Ocado, nr London, England

A place for employers, project leaders etc to post if they are looking for people to assist with an Ogre-based project. Please only post in this area if you have a _serious_ project proposition for which you already have something to show for.

[Paid] Summer Intern Wanted At Ocado, nr London, England

Post by WarehouseJim »

I work for http://www.Ocado.com, the UK online supermarket. Ocado has taken a very technology driven, centralised approach to selling food. Currently we use just one massive, highly automated warehouse to distribute food to all our customers (20x the size of a typical large supermarket, apparently the largest such facility in Europe). We're growing at around 25% per year, and our technical headcount is growing rapidly too so we're recruiting lots of fresh graduates. We take on a wide variety of projects in house from iPhone applications to controlling conveyors to projects using advanced artificial intelligence. The office is young, relaxed and we don't work long hours.

We have internships in many areas, but I work on a project that visualises simulations of our complex warehouse in 3D using Ogre (or really Mogre). We have a 3D model of the vast and complex network of conveyors, computerised stations and workers all interacting in real time. Such a tool is increasingly becoming more powerful and will touch areas of design, problem analysis and more simply how to find items.

For the internship, the project will be moulded around the intern, but it is likely to be focused on making it look cooler! So we're looking for someone with a bit of creativity to work on the user interface, visual fidelity and likely also optimising the render cycle. Clearly it will be an excellent project in that you will be able to lead to a very visible improvement in this important software. You'll be programming in C# with Visual Studio (and Resharper) and will have access to top hardware.

A successful candidate will ideally be in the penultimate year of their university course (ideally computer science or related) at a top university, and have specific skills in 3D graphics (if you don't, other internships are available) and be prepared to work for at least 10 weeks over the Summer holidays.

We have already started interviewing for internships, so get in touch with me quickly if you're interested and I can provide you with more details.

Ocado is based in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. It is easy to get to from London, or the surrounding area.

Wow, that's totally cool! :)
When you're able - *if* you are able, that is - to show what it looks like, you're welcome to post something in our ShowCase forum. :)
