ok, I've ran into a problem that a file I've used ogremax with will no longer open with a machine without ogremax, and I have to say, installing ogremax on that machine is not a possibility.
reading the help file I came across this snippet.
"Merging 3DS Max scenes that contain OgreMax settings doesn't work - When merging other 3DS Max scenes, you must merge the entire scene (including the OgreMax scene settings object it contains). "
which led me to look for said file. and there it was. OgreMaxSceneSettings01 . So i deleted the file, and can now open the file on the machine without ogremax. I still seem to be able to export my models without any issues. is there something I'm missing? is there some reason that I should not get a batch script to delete this in all my max files that this has infested? what problems does it cause with merging?
also one last question, at what point does this file get created? is it a specific action that causes it? I'd hate to have it created on some file I'm looking at that has nothing to do with games just because ogremax is installed.

Re: uninfecting ogremax files
Hello Shadowfeign,
I'm experiencing the same problem as you did here, only the issue is much more serious for me. Ogremax is only used on one small project that we have worked on, but it has somehow embeded itself into all max files saved by my PC. So now I can't give any max files to clients, as they would need Ogremax installed to work with my files. I can't uninstall Ogremax, or I won't be able to open my own files.
I can see an object called "OgreMaxSceneSettings01" in many files, but it remains hidden, even with an "Unhide All", and resists deletion. How did you remove it from you files?
I'm surprised that others haven't discussed this problem, it's a serious misuse of software, and can be considered virus type activity on behalf of Ogremax.
If you can help me at all I would really appreciate it!
Many thanks

Re: uninfecting ogremax files
This is fairly typical for max plugins, I've seen it happen to students who use plugins at home then try to load the max files in the college pc's.
OgreMax adds new material types and custom ogre based info to meshes (do you want tangents or edge lists built, etc) as well as needing to store a heap of info about the scene (scene manager to use, etc). If max can't let you skip that extra metadata (it might complain, but I've always been able to eventually skip past that stuff and get the model loaded) then it's probably max's fault, not ogremax acting like a virus.
