Family Farm - a farming tycoon/sim game (demo available!)

Post by martin_prochazka »

I'have taken new screenshots and shoot video of our project Family Farm, so let's introduce it here too...

We are creating a farming game which could be described as a tycoon set in the 19th century with sims-like characters. We try to be realistic: characters have various talents and skills, need to eat meals, babies are born, trees grow, yields depend on weather and so on. The game mechanics are similar to board and RPG games, because designer of core mechanics is autheur of dozens of board games.

The game is available for Windows, Mac and Linux. You can try demo: Windows, Linux and Mac (OS X 10.6).

More info on website.

Very nice!

Some dynamic shadows would be even better.

Looks very nice and very polished,
Farmville meets The Sims. Two very lucrative niche markets.
I think you're going to do rather well with it...

Personally it's not my type of tycoon game, I'm more into hardcore/realistic simulators, like SimFarm :)

Thanx for kind words!

We are more like Harvest Moon than FarmVille. I don't have much understanding for FarmVille  Hope we find some players which enjoy more depth...

We have decided for old-style shadow spots under objects and moving shadow texture of clouds because it looks nice and it's cheap in every aspect (HW, work). We would like to run it on tablets with Tegra2 and we have lots of stuff in the scene...

This game looks shiny. Good work! I particularly like how fine-tuned the interface is. Everything just looks clean.

Re: Family Farm - a farming tycoon/sim game (demo available!

We would like to let you know that you can play this game already in the form of (still beta) demo. We have fixed most of crashes and it's polished well enough, so we are ready to share our work with you

In demo you have 3 "stories" to play which take more than an hour to complete. The final and full version is going to be released in April 15th. If you preorder from our website, you can have it sooner.

I'd like to say, so far so good,
I got a .net error at start, that's the only bug I ran into.

Loved the twitter feed for news, might have to steal that idea :)

Game play wise, it felt a little slow at first, but in the later stories it speeds it up a bit.
I also it feels a little repetitive after 2 hours of playing. Hopefully the later stories fix this, as I feel there are very little options (things to do) during the first 3 stories.

Over all a damn fine game,

[s]Where do you plan to distribute it? And how much you think you're going to charge for it?[/s]
Never mind says it on your page.

I just tried the demo, Amazing!

The look of the game is very satisfactory, the texture painting, cloud shadows camera movement are very neat.

Few questions:
In the commercial version more maps (farms) will be available or just the one as in demo. I am still not upto the speed with the story but yeah I made that gal fishing, and guy collecting the apples, it was great fun.

I am going to grab the game as soon as it becomes available.

Yeah, it starts slowly. But it's needed because you are probably experienced players and you would be surprised that casual players have problems to even navigate in space.

There are big farms of course and with 6 or more workers it's like managing a Zerg attack in Starcraft! Maybe we could add a taste of it into the demo.

Any way to get the (standalone) demo from another place? familyfarmgame.com is not accessible in China, and the downloader fails, even with a vpn.
Also, are you looking for a translation into french?
(well, I could have a closer look on twitter/blogspot/facebook as proposed in the website to find the answer, but twitter/blogspot/facebook are not available here, whereas ogre is!)

I also felt the network installer was overkill for the size of the demo. I hope you don't do this with the retail version- as many users will wish to install the program directly on a non internet enabled computer.

My criticism aside...

The installer looks great. The game has a very polished feel. The interface for the game feels like a mash up between Farmville and the Sims- which is perfect for the target audience. Good work!

That's strange, we have integrated downloader to have more comfortable installation. Ok, we could provide regular installer with complete pack. Thank you for suggestion. I don't know why is our site blocked in China. We have no mention of Tibet cause there, anyway we support free Tibet!

There is french localization on the way. Iceberg Interactive is going to offer this language in their release.

Thank you for positive feedback!

Will there be a Mac demo? I'd like to try this game.

The screenshots look cool, although maybe too much "Earth tones" for me ( to give you an example, I like Harvest Moon 64's color palette a bit more ).
Great otherwise.

Thank you nevarim, we love to hear this! :P We are still improving user interface and controls because casual players are struggling with it in some moments... We have realized why are casual games mostly 2D.
