GameDev Redesign

Post by EricB »

GameDev.net has been completely redesigned... Since I know and have seen a number of Ogre'ers on it, I'd like to hear thoughts from the Ogre community?

Personally I can't stand it, It seems to me like it's trying way to hard to be facebook. To me, it's highly annoying :(

I am glad to see they finally did something with it. They had that old design for so long it just looked like someone had left the site to die. I am not a huge fan of that style they are using, but it is clean/simple enough/efficient, so I can't really argue with it either.

The site doesn't seem any clearer (try and find anything there without search). But i guess that wasn't the aim. Looks cool!

It just looks like they moved to IP board and modeled their site around it.
I've always thought their old forum software was a piece of rotten crap, and I am glad that they changed to a decent one.
The forum has always been the reason why you'd want to visit Gamedev.net - I don't really care much about the daily rants..
Devmaster is much better.

Yay, they finally have a search which can sort by date!
But on the down side, the search can't find anything. Even the word "game" has zero hits across all their forums.

Try the advanced search.
Normal search seems to be case-sensitive... and just bugged. IP board *feature*.
"Advanced" is click the cog.

I did use the advanced search, I haven't tried the normal search yet. :)
I tried various words, none had hits.

Don't spend a lot of time at GameDev, though I've picked up helpful bits and pieces here and there. New design seems ok, I'm more or less indifferent, looking over the news now... wait a sec, Jeff Minter's released a new game! Awesome!

I used to like flipcode.

Hmm, Jeff's new game looks like asteroids, but with really crappy looking touch controls.

yeah flipcode was the best shame he couldn't keep up with the amount of request he got.

I like the new site.

I think it is cleaner and easier to read.
