Found a fun simulation on Steam.

Post by mkultra333 »

Not Ogre related AFAIK, but anyway, saw this on Steam and grabbed it straight away. It's called Universe Sandbox. It's a space simulator, where you can simulate planets, systems and galaxies. I've only been playing it five minutes but finding it pretty fun, making ridiculous solar systems with red giants that gobble up the other stars in the system straight away while sling-shotting planets off into the void.

Might appeal to other science nerds and it's pretty cheap. There's also a free version, but you can't create things in it, just look at the "real" solar system/galaxy/etc.

I bought it a week or so ago.

I keep trying to make binary or trinary star systems with it, but it doesn't seem to get the equilibrium right and I would like to see better collisions though; planets splitting into uneven chunks rather than neat spheres.

But it's overall it's a neat little application/game and which is not bad for it's price.

I threw a bunch of suns together at random, and after they finished eating each other and sling-shotting I was left with a binary star.

Nicer planet explosions would be nice. It was a little disappointing colliding two Earths and simply getting a double-sized earth... I wanted molten rock explosions. Maybe in a later version.

Edit: Zoomed out and realized I had a second binary system too. Maybe it's better to constuct universes by accident rather than design.

On the downside, it crashes a fair bit. Hopefully the success it's having will give him the resources to make it a bit more sturdy.

Yes, I hate that too. It also forgets my settings for some reason.
