Can someone convert these? *is paying* MUST KNOW FERALHEART

A place for employers, project leaders etc to post if they are looking for people to assist with an Ogre-based project. Please only post in this area if you have a _serious_ project proposition for which you already have something to show for.

Can someone convert these? *is paying* MUST KNOW FERALHEART

Post by DragonsFire »

Please be familiar with FeralHeart! http://feral-heart.com (yes its an OGRE game)

Sorry, I'm sorta a newbie at this, and keep in mind im only 14 so ya... (but for a 14 year old, i know a good amount  )

Ok, so in feralheart (its a Massive multiplayer online game, MMO) You can chose to be a Canine or Feline, make and name your character, And then you enter the Feralheart world which has a basic three maps that EVERYONE can see and go on. But if you make a Pack (or pride, clan, etc) you can make your OWN maps, that when you send the link to others and they download it, they can get onto your map and people can RP (role play) Till the wee hours of the morning

Now, for a world im making (10-20+ maps) I would like Pray that the players can chase around. The key is, I know how to convert Inanimate stuff into OGRE meshes, and have done so, But Having a Inanimate deer model just standing there is kinda... boring. I want them to run around and all that, aka, be Animated. I found some models that i want to be animated but before i went off to buy them i wanted to make sure i could convert them into ORGE with the animations intact, So i went to google and searched how to, i found a thread.
I was wondering what means people typically use to (inexpensively) convert from popular animated model formats from various 3D model sites to Ogre skeleton/mesh files. Note that I am specifically asking about rigged and animated models, *not* static ones.

For example, suppose you are interested in a $50 model that you've found on a 3D model site, and it's available only in Max format. One means to convert it for you by Ogre would be to spend $3500 on 3ds Max, $250 on OgreMax, load it, and export it. $3800 later you have a usable model, tongue firmly in cheek.

This really doesn't come across as economical.

Are there alternate conversion paths that let you get the animated models reliably into to Ogre? Perhaps via an intermediate format that preserves animation? What are people *actually* *doing* in this situation?

ya.... 3800$ is not exactly in my budget. But reading the reply's of the thread, Someone suggested that I HIRE someone to convert the files for me. I like that idea

So, who is willing (and able) to convert ANIMATED animals and such so that it can be used in FeralHeart? unsure on the actual price per conversion yet, have to talk to other FH members who are going to help me pay =D

**PS; You need to download feralheart from the link i posted above (there's no viruses or spyware, don't worry ;D) So that you can test and tweak the model/animation/thing So that when we get it, its game ready! keep in mind, we are teens for Pete's sake xD, once you have converted AND tested, making sure that it works, we will pay the other 2/3 (1/3 will be payed up front)**

Did you post this in other places where artists visit?
The Ogre community is frequented mainly by programmers.. :)

So, basically you are asking if it is possible to take a static model, "animate"/rig it? Sure it is! You need a modeling tool that can open the static model, someone who can rig it and a matching exporter (chain) to Ogre.

But as mentioned before: That is an artist's job, so there are places with higher chances to find someone for that job.

if you HAVE animated models, i can convert them (and if they are not animated i can do riggin & animating, but would cost you a lil more, it depends what amount we are speaking about there).
