[PAID] Xsens MVN Studio graphics pipeline optimization

A place for employers, project leaders etc to post if they are looking for people to assist with an Ogre-based project. Please only post in this area if you have a _serious_ project proposition for which you already have something to show for.

[PAID] Xsens MVN Studio graphics pipeline optimization

Post by Job »

We at Xsens have been using Ogre in our MVN Studio (full-body motion capture, see link) for a while now and we would like to improve its graphics performance. What we need is someone who can come over to our offices for a few days, maybe a week, look at how we're using Ogre now and (hopefully) help us improve the graphics pipeline.
Download the demo to give it a try, the 's' key gives Ogre statistics so you can see if you think this can be improved ;) The framerate is capped at 50Hz to give our processing threads more time.

We built MVN Studio on Ogre 1.6.5, but it also works with 1.7.2 since a few days.
An important feature for our customers and so also for our graphics pipeline is shadows, especially on-character shadows. Since the application is used for motion capture, having accurate shadows is important to get a good feel of the proper relative positions of the body segments.
I read about the new real-time shader in 1.7, but I haven't had time to look into it and whether it can be used for our purposes. Currently we use Ogre::SHADOWTYPE_STENCIL_MODULATIVE for our shadowing.

Lastly, we have customers that want to have an exported (mpg/avi) movie of recorded data. This requires rendering to a buffer instead of on-screen, but preferably as fast as possible. Any assistance with this part would also be useful.

If you think you have the in-depth Ogre knowledge to help us, please post here or contact me at xsens.com, job.mulder

Yes, thanks for the help :)
We'll contact you in 2012 when we pick up MVN development again. We have some things in mind that you could do for us, but we prefer to be working on MVN in parallel with you.
