Who else is eagerly waiting to buy a Raspberry Pi?

It's arrived!! I'm right now sitting cross legged in front of my tele typing this. Brings back happy memories of first learning program (in BASIC). Of course if I knew better I would have preferred python.

I decided to finally take the plunge and grab a couple of raspberry pi's.
Last night I went to the RS online store. They say it has an estimated 11 weeks until despatch.
I went to Farnell Element 14 instead. They said they had 470 of them in sydney, and it's free shipping to brisbane. I ordered two of them at 3am. By 4pm they'd shipped. They should arrive tomorrow.
Maybe I'll get more out of these than my beagleboard and pandaboard.

As usual, I have to wait for Toll to update their tracking data. Their website always lags, they've had the package for 3 hours but don't know it yet.

At the moment, I have mine setup as a Samba share talking to my new Sonos system.

2 Watts is a bit more economical to run than my main rig of 170 Watts on idle.

I am thinking of setting up a MySQL server on it too as I have programmed some apps in the past that use MySQL databases.

Toll possibly doesn't want to tell you until they are more sure. I work for a Courier company that has up the minute ETAs on our site, and unfortunately a lot of people don't know what the E in ETA stands for.

Anyway - Now that they are more available now... Beowulf Raspberry Pi Cluster anyone?

They arrived at midday today.

I've already got Wheezy Raspbian running (the debian distro for the Pi), so I've made faster progress than with my beagleboard or pandaboard.
I don't have time to play with it more until tomorrow though, I have to prepare for tomorrow's maths lecture (3d matrices).

I just checked the Element14 page (australian one). Yesterday morning they had 470 in stock. Tonight there's only 41 left.

Got this nifty little case for it today as well. It's a nice idea as well, several laser-cut sections that you put together with the Pi in the middle. (word of warning though, I'm not 100% convinced a ribbon cable for the GPIO will kink properly to get through the side section... seems a bit close to the pins. Will have to wait and see.)

Today I finally ordered my Rhaspberry Pi. I'm looking for a case for it too.

I got an adafruit case on eBay for $10. Looks good, but rattles a little bit.
There are some good plans to 3d print if you have a 3d printer handy.

I'll need to make some tests with my Raspberry pi, then if they are positive, I'll order more

I've started playing around with my RPi again. I followed a tutorial (20 pages) on how to set up a windows based toolchain (very painful and complicated, but it seems to have worked).
But something I've noticed: despite the incredible popularity of the RPi, there's very little in the way of engines for it. It seems most games coding on it is done in software rendering SDL or PyGame.
So far I can't find a single free open source opengles based 2d game library (like SFML, Cocos2dx, Moai, etc).
Looks like I'll have to write my own.

I could get ogre on it, but I'm not interested in 3d games (on the raspberry pi that is).

Anybody else seen any 2d engines?

Perhaps AllegroGL? Haven't looked at it lately, but it allowed you to use OpenGL along with the Allegro library. http://www.allegro.cc

I had to work with cocos2d-x, it's complete enough to make 2D games on mobile, harder on desktop, but you have to be warned that it is totally designed with from cocos2d which mean it's using a lot of objective-c idioms which are not really good ideas if you work with idiomatic C++ and intend to say that way. With a clear separation between code using cocos2d-x and the rest it's ok, but it's not easy to do in particular with positioning data. Or if you already use a math lib for doing it then it's easy but you can't use their tweening facilities then.
