Using the sample app code for 1.8 I get the familiar error:
The view controller <EAGLViewController: 0x6b14b00> returned NO from -shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation: for all interface orientations. It should support at least one orientation.
The app runs so is this a problem?
I found this thread from MasterFalcon:
http://www.ogre3d.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=61806
But how did things resolve - for instance can I control it through the CFG as was proposed?

Check your Info.plist. Do you have any supported orientations listed in it? If not, add those that you want to support.

No that was missing, thanks!
Does Ogre properly support screen rotations or do I need to do anything?

It lets the view controller handle the rotation for you. If you switch from portrait to landscape or vice-versa, the screen buffer will be auto resized by Ogre.
