Grass demo

Post by sinbad »

Just a thread to get us started. Here's a shot of the new Demo_Grass demo in 1.0.0:
Image

It uses the new StaticGeometry class to 'bake' lots of instances of grass fronds into batched sets of geometry, then uses a vertex program to make the grass wave in the 'wind'. The grass polys have their normals pointing directly upwards to ensure consistent lighting on both sides of the grass polys. Oh, and I put in a offset mapped OGRE head for good measure :)

Cool. I like the offset mapped OGRE head. Have you seen that relief mapping shader at: http://www.shadertech.com/cgi-bin/shade ... =-1&page=1? Actually all of the shaders there are cool, good stuff to make demos out of.

Geforce FX5900 Ultra in that case, although it runs the same on my ATI Mobility 9700 too :)

I'm running the grass demo in release mode with a framerate between 40-60 fps (fullscreen, 1280x1024) on a ATI Radeon 9600XT / 3.0 GHz Intel CPU
No problems (but I´m afraid to recompile my own project now)

A question: I have 44 warnings (i.e. C4101, C4715). Do these warnings stay in the final version, because they can easily be fixed

It is included with the Ogre 1.0.0RC1 precompiled demo package together with other fabulous demos, in the downloads section.
