Interesting.
I wonder just how much functionality it exposes? Is there anything useful in there for non greenlight games? This allows any developer to evaluate potential Steamworks integration for their games, including the ability to compile the code and perform limited testing of the functionality.

Stats. Tons of stats. It provide tons of metrics tools.
If I understood correctly, if you begin to use it now, you'll get stats in your Steam user account.
Also, data persistence (saves on the cloud), match making etc.

I have the feeling that they are going to open even more in the near future.
Even if the article says "... any developer that wants to fully integrate Steamworks into a game must first be Greenlit through the Steam Greenlight process", Gabe himself in the past said greenlight was somewaht ill-conceived

That's what they suggested. It seems that they want to distribute the curation system so that some willing people act mostly like label managers, earning money for games they sell through their own portal, which would be inside Steam system. Something like that.ekt wrote:I have the feeling that they are going to open even more in the near future.
