Timeline

Post by iblues1976 »

I was searching for the post for the timeline for a stable Ogre 2.x.

I understand that Ogre 1.x will continue (I guess for a while) from 1.9 to 1.10 (and maybe 1.11?)

Do you guys think that Ogre 2.x stable maybe available in 2015?

Thanks,
Francisco

That heavily depends on the 'x', since 2.9 won't. But the first 2.0 version should be available sometime this year. I will see if we can announce a new estimated timeline soon.

Thanks... I should have gone with 2.0 ... 2.stable ...:)

I meant 2.0 stable... I guess I place the x, since I wasn't sure if maybe at some point they called the stable 2.01 or 2.1 or 2.0 ...

Hi

I'm trying to plan for a long term project, could you give an approximate time/year half for Ogre 2.1? Do you think it will be ready before the end of 2014?

Thanks

Why are you asking specifically for Ogre 2.1 when Ogre 2.0 isn't even fixed yet, neither in terms of timeline nor scope?

Hi, because looking at your earlier timeline Ogre 2.1 is likely to be the first release I can build against confidently, so it felt the better choice.

Hi

Will the build dependencies and bulk of the architecture be stable by the time 2.0 is ready, so 2.0 can be built against knowing future version of 2.x to 2.1 and 2.3 wont have aspects which may limit forward compatibility, or impact design choices in a way you might expect going from say 1.x to 2.x, or 2.x to 3.x?

Planning is important to me, and having some information regarding the evolution of 2.x over the next 18 months is important for starting the right things at the right time.

In my opinion, which is not much, since I'm not an OGRE expert, it will be to wait for them to release 2.0 (stable). This is not just a 1.8 to 1.9 type of change. My understanding based on reading the forum, is that 2.0 is just a whole new OGRE (maybe not whole... but it is a major change). Meanwhile, if you really want to use OGRE 2, use what they have in their repo.

I think it will be hard for you to find an exact date or approximate date (for that matter) of the release. Nevertheless, based on the previous post, it seems there maybe a stable release by the end of the year or next year.
