Another test, now with a vector modelled face, maybe I need to change the font this time...

Re: New Ogre logo proposal :)
I agree with the necessity to renew/reinvent/modernize the logo.
The logo, i think, need at least to version
1. A Hight-tec look, with metalic 3d stuf, as an option.
2. A simple, sober, and elegant one.. Less child game look ( with all do respect ) and more a " Professional and serius OO-Graph-Rendering-Engine "
I think 2.1 should be released with new Site too ... (dream ok ..)

Re: New Ogre logo proposal :)
I agree that Ogre could use more modern logo for 2.x, but the first designs offered by miki3d seem too basic and flat; they would be ok for some kind of watermark but not full representative logo.
Actually I have nothing against colors of the current logo, I'd just paint eyes and mouth and overall contour to make ogre's features more distinct, and also adjust shape of the letters to become more streamlined, serious and a bit less playful.
I liked these ones the best:

But ogre's head could still be in profile and also the upper part of the letter coloring could be preserved.

I like this one, with the head to the left. And how would white background and black text look like?miki3d wrote:Another test, now with a vector modelled face, maybe I need to change the font this time...

For my own projects, I use this logo I've made a while ago. 3D crafted by hands style^^

@codrer
Can you invert black and white and make the text orange with a small stroke

Oh, thanks!
As you seem to like this starting point I'm going to do a couple of alternative versions tonight/tomorow.

@coderer - also a fan. You certainly have my encouragement on thiscodrer wrote:Oh, thanks!

Having a monochromatic/black/white logo is basic branding. I was once told by a graphic-design friend who does branding: "If it doesn't look good in black and white, it won't look good in color".
Also recognize that it'll probably be impossible to make everyone happy - there will always be a naysayer... calling xrgo's entries "hipster" is probably taking things a step too far - I like them as well. coderer's entry gives a nod to the old logo, so as to not make it unrecognizable. Yet, not the same logo I first saw twelve years ago with cartoon rendering and a gradient.

Re: New Ogre logo proposal :)
It's only a "step too far" if you take it as an insult. Which if if you don't understand the meaning of the word you might.zarthrag wrote:codrer wrote: Also recognize that it'll probably be impossible to make everyone happy - there will always be a naysayer... calling xrgo's entries "hipster" is probably taking things a step too far - I like them as well.
Merriam Webster: Hipster- a person who follows the latest styles, fashions, etc. : a hip person
The style he is using is very trendy of late. As I mentioned in the posts you're opining upon. You should catch me on IRC when I really voice my opinions!

To throw this post back on topic:
codrer's logo is much better. Although I dislike the color scheme and still think it needs a 2 if you guys plan on a complete rebrand from the 'failure' of 1.x.

Re: New Ogre logo proposal :)
I don't care about hipster or not, I do care about that the new logo is professional.
So it all comes down to who is the better designer.
And I think Codrer takes the lead in that regard

Re: New Ogre logo proposal :)

My original logo works well on a black background (for my video / loading page). However I'm not sure it can fit a real "brand logo".
I'm not satisfied here. I decided to add a couple of additional proposals:

That's only drafts. Open to any suggestion!

Could you perhaps combine those? The green old logo and the new number 3 ? That would be killer.

Re: New Ogre logo proposal :)
codrer's versions are terrific!!!
I like the last 2:

The drop shadow looks better, but the non-shadow version is also useful in certain cases (depends on website stuff, where & when the logo is being used; when you need to generate the shadow yourself for better zoom in & out or using it with 3D effects, etc).
I like the earring detail. Breaks the symmetry, and it's a nice touch for the old timers.

I agree, but if someone doesn't tell you it's an earring it just looks like some random circle, I vote without it =Ddark_sylinc wrote:Breaks the symmetry

Well, technically OGRE's name is O-OGRE (Object-Oriented Graphics Rendering Engine). So the second small "o" does actually make sense.
