Video tutes - need host.

Hi,
I made some video tutorials explaining how to export models and there animations ( in max), but need somewhere to host them. I made them for an animation lecture at qantm.
Warning though there over 2 gig and it goes for over 2 hours.
There broken up into 5 parts. 1. check out the model, 2.figure biped, 3.skin, 4.1 animation, 5. 2nd animation.
I make a lot of mistakes during it, but I see this as a positive as it shows people how to fix their problems that are a certainty to come up.
Maybe I could make them lower quality and smaller ? They're at work atm, so won't be able to upload them until Tuesday.

awesome, I love video tutes!

I can't help with hosting but to ease the pain alot make them available as BitTorrents aswell. xvid is a good free codec btw.
ps I love some programming video tutes for OGRE, like the 3dbuzz ones.

hah, the ogre team should sell seminar dvds
did any of you ogre team ever decide to go ahead and write a book?

Two gig for two hours? You need to compress the video with something like Divx. You could bring that down to 800 mb at least.

Very grateful to hear that you made the video tutorials. That will make 3DSMAX users more than helpful to start with.
By the way I am willing to help for hosting. However that is too big for my web. About less than 10 mb would be great to fit into my web site.
Thanks a lot for the great tutorials.

hmm, im running an FTP atm. However I doubt that I could share it to everyone, but im willing to maybe dedicate 10gb of transfer a month or something to it perhaps.. Until you can find something better..
Let me know what you think... I don't have that greater connection 1500/256k and transfers would be speed limited during peak hours...

This is the kind of thing bittorrent was made for. If you host them somewhere I'll help seed.
Edit: But get it down to around 800 megs first.

I believe, if a full Movie DVD (3.4Gb-7GB) can be brought done to VCD size (~640M), you can definately decrease the size you currently have
I also recommend xvid for something like this. Also, keep the frame size small, 240x320 'ish should be adequte.. And, if there is audio, keep the quality low, and use mp3 or vorbis audio.

depends, if it's proper screengrabbed then keep in 800x600 since it's pointless if you can't see the screen and lower the framerate to 12 or something since it should compress very well (like 3dbuzz tutes). Audio as ogg would work best.
www.doom9.net I think has all you need (virtualdub probably)

If you have a decent enough Internet connection yourself, you could host a torrent for these files one part at a time.
Azureus has an embedded tracker I think. If it does, that could make it fairly easy to share. I've never used it though, so I don't know how to go about setting it up.

Though, I've never tried it... ourmedia.org might be a good place for this.

I'd help with hosting a torrent for those as well.

I'll try to compress them a bit more first, I think they were full screen grabs at 1024x768. I'll try to knock it down to 320x200 or something like that, although the screen may become unreadable. I think next time I'll capture at 640X480.
I'll play around with with bit-torrent again, sounds like the ideal solution. I'll let you know when I get it up - probably Wednesday/Thursday

Bit torrent is cool... But, only for files that will have *many*many* downloads/seeders... Without many seeders... well, I'm sure you know the speed will suck.
Have you looked at
http://www.ourmedia.org ? looks like the perfect solution from what I see.

try 512x384 exactly half should recompress nicely. 320x200 is useless.
Bittorrent should still be good even if there's only a few seeders. It all helps in the end.

wow, this is exactly what I am looking for!
I've been trying to import models/animation for
the past 2 weeks for an open ended class and
couldn't figure it out. Made this account just to
show my gratitude =) Thanks a lot! I'll be checking
this post quite often to see the status of your videos.

I'm totally stoked!
If you need some space, I have a server I can toss up a few clips. I'm sure I can spare some bandwidth (not infinite of course).

I can provide 20gb space plus plenty of bandwidth.... HTTP download, host a torrent or whatever. Write me at
Stephen@IPCoast.com if you are interested.

Hey roundsparrow,
That sounds like a good idea. I'll send u an email tommorrow.
I tried to "ensmallen" the video using premiere, reduced the width and hieght by half, had 95% compression, dropped it to 5 fps from 30. After doing that it made the 200 meg file 100 meg bigger ;(
Got one of my students today to encode them (using vsub? from doom9? I think?) and rar them up and together they're about 400-500 meg.
Can't imagine they'll be a huge demand for it, so hopefully shoudn't be too bad to share.
I'll have to figure out a way to upload it. I'lldo some testing with torrents tomorrow.

He swanny, just upload them at work and let the uni pay for the bandwidth :-p Last time I checked they didnt cap UL. If they do now I'd be happy to come in and grab the CD's and upload them for you. I'm keen to check them out myself.

Yup,
It's coming, just exploring the options to upload and dload it. Thinking of using azureus and sending the cd to a couple of friends to host at this stage.

Ok Boys and girls.
Here is the torrent link to these awsome tutorials made by McSwan. Using Bitorrent so please help your fellow ogreites by ensuring that you UL and please try to SEED the file for as long as possible.

Thanks for posting! It appears that the torrent is having some problems at the moment. If this is a global issue, I'd like to offer my webspace to host the file... I just got some space from my university, and am able to host it for at least a couple gigs of downloads I'm sure...
email me at
eddieshen@hotmail.com as to how I am able to get the file from you....
or (hopefully) tell me that it works and that I'm just setting up torrents incorrectly? =) Thanks again. kudos to Mdobele and McSwan
