Stunt Playground v1.0

Post by walaber »

Stunt Playground - my first complete game with Ogre!! many of you common to these forums will know this game from the WIP post... now I feel it's ready for an "official" release, so here it is! Lots of changes since the last beta release.

here's a batch of new screenshots:

and 2 new videos:

and last but not least:
 DOWNLOAD LINK - version 1.0 | .rar archive | approx 12MB

I think there are probably still things that can be improved, so I may release updates in the future if any major problems are found. I'd love to hear any comments you have on the game!

I would also like to add more props and vehicles, which is really simple, so if anyone has any ideas for jumps / obstacles / vehicles, please let me know. or if you already have an object that might work (and it's a blender file), send it to me and maybe I'll add it!

hopefully I'll be able to release a few add-on packs with more props and vehicles soon :)

Your first OGRE game??

Its like commercial quality stuff.

I'd love to make some props, I'm just now getting used to Blender. I'll have a go next time I get some free time.

I'm amazed at how quickly this project developed, how many hours did you put into it? Definitely one of the best projects i've seen so far!

What can I say - awesome achievement, and in such little time.

So impressed - and can't wait to spend many hours playing it.

sorry about the timing kencho, time zones can be a bitch :P

thanks for the comments everyone! I'm not sure why the realtime reflections don't work in OpenGL... might be an error in the rendertexture or something... if you use OpenGL you can just turn them off in the settings window.

if anyone makes an interesting arena / replay feel free to send it to me, I'll put it on my homepage!

This is just great!!
I really like the game, unfortuanetly, i can only in openGL mode, for me, launching it in Dx mode is just a fast and clean way to reboot my computer.... there isn't even a blue screen..

Seetings that makes crash:
Direct3d Dx9
flaoting point: fastest
fullscreen : yes
Vsync :no
mode : 1280*1024 32bits
my card is a radeon 9600 XT (catalyst drivers 5.4(lastest))
in the event log, there's a 'save dump' entry, the error code is something like 0x1000008e with 0xc0000005 which means a kernel mode dirvers throwed an access violation... maybe a problem with catalyst drivers...

If you have any idea about how to find out what is located at an adress (sofwtare or c/c++ trick) i can maybe local the dll/ progaram that cause the exception if it is a driver or a system file as it is almost always loaded at the same address

Well, i managed to play in Dx mode but it's only when it's in windowed mode..
i noticed a bug also:
add any prop, place your cursor in the air, hit R and the R again and again... (while hitting R you can move the cursor) -> the prop will saty in the air, wont be affected by physics, the you can just try to drive in your plyground : you will be able to go through the props but then when you hit ESC, (returning to placing mode) the physic will be apllyed on al of them.

Very great game.

Which kind of shadow type do you use Walaber?? I would bet that you use stencil shadows, but they are very fast. I never managed to get as such fast shadows as in your game!!

I looking forward to release some props. How can I create some props?? Do I just have to create the mesh?? Whats about the props.xml file??

Go on!!

Wow, that was fun ^^

Any chances that you'll release the sources? I suppose you're using OgreNewt and I (and others too of course :) could learn a lot from your code.

Thats a fun little game you've made here. I like especially the reply function. Its more fun to watch cars flying through tons and tons of stuff than playing itself :D. Now just add realtime deformable cars and you've got a free Flatout ;)

Congrats Walabar! A remarkable achievement!

BTW I noticed you included a big (5.5 M) pdb file in that archive.

Playing a little more I noticed some small things:

- When adding props and pressing R before the prop has been dropped, a new prop is spawned but the old one is still dangling (without physics etc.). I think this is what Wooden reported, too.

- When editing the arena, it's sometimes difficult to select a prop because the green 'marker' flickers. Sometimes the prop gets selected, but often I also get into the add prop menu (as if the cursor wasn't at a prop).

- I was having problems with the automatic transmission at some point. When I started driving the arena the second and later times the car didn't shift higher than to gear 1. I can't reproduce this now for some reason, and I only noticed this with the blue car; I don't know if it's present on the other cars.

Just to help you make it even better. :)

I think the green selecter box only flickers in Dx mode, with OpenGL I dont have this problem or maybe it's windowed/fullscreen mode...
