Is assassin's creed worth buying?

Ok, some people might think that this is not the right place to ask this...
but I just wanted to hear another opinion... come on, asking this on a assassin's creed forum would probably have lead to everyone telling me to buy it

So, as I do not posses a xbox360 nor a ps 3, I am planning to buy the pc version of this game when it comes out.

however something is holding me back. Some people call this game "the biggest dissapointment of the year", others claim that it is one of the best games they ever played. Yes, I have seen the trailers and from a graphical point of view I would go and buy it straight away... but then again I am a bit concerned about the AI and the fact that this game is said to be very short...

I am wondering if it's really worth the money or not. Once I had similar concerns about gothic 3... you know these screens looked awesome, there were some pretty good critics... but there were also people who called it dissapointing. I just went ahead and bought it and I must say that I really was dissapointed . However this is not about gothic but assassin's creed, right?

So, has anyone played it (the console version, obviously =D) and would like to recommend it, or warn me instead? Looking forward to hearing what you guys think

I have Assassin's Creed on the Xbox360 and I really enjoy it. I really like the free roving and the AI is very impressive. The missions can get a bit repetitive, but I didn't find that to be too bad. On the 360 you can tell it's a port from the PS3 as there are some weird graphical artifacts, but for the most part it's a visually stunning game! All in all I would say it's a definite buy.

Well, I got it as well and I was a bit disappointed. It does look great and plays pretty well but the main problem is just that after an hour or so everything seems to repeat over and over again …

LOL, but if we only ever listened to him the only game we would ever play in Portal!

I said it can get repetitive, but I really enjoyed the game dynamic, so I didn't mind too much. I really didn't like the "lab" though.

I haven't tried assassin's creed yet (don't own a console), but I'm a huge fan of assassin-like games (Thief 1-3, Hitman, Splinter Cell, etc).

I actually really enjoyed Gothic 3. It was hard to stay interested at the beginning, and the combat really sucked, but as I got further into it I really enjoyed it, especially exploring the environment. Although combat still sucked, even when I was level 50 and had dual wield flame swords.

I've got it, and although I have enjoyed it - the free-running is cool and it's easily the best realisation of medieval cities I've seen - its main flaw is repetition - you will basically do everything you will ever do in the game in the first 2 hours; after that it's repetition in different surroundings with a different narrative. I go back to it now and then because I'd like to finish it eventually, but it gets tedious to play it too much. You do slowly gain your weapons as you play (ah, the old Metroid trick of starting you with everything, then taking it all away and making you earn it in the rest of the game), but none of them feel like they change the play experience particularly, and the extra parts of the city you find look very nice, but play exactly the same.

I'd say it's a good experience, a good technical achievement and it is fun, but the game designer needs a slap for exhausting all his/her ideas at the start of the game. Narrative can only do so much, especially when it's so over-dramatic as this.

One of the worst games Ive ever played.

I hate to be the sour one, but i felt like my intelligence was being insulted while playing.

1)I hated the story. out of courtesy i wont go into detail, but lets just say the really slick 12th century assassins theme is heavily trodded upon and flushed away in the toilet in favor of something that is tacked on, non sequitur, needs to be over-explained with childish science, unnecessary and ultimately serves only to constantly destroy your suspended disbelief.

2)10 minute long intolerably bad unskippable cut scenes. The dialog is among the worst ive ever heard in a video game (I know most games have horrible dialog, but this is BAD). Badly written, badly delivered. However, the designers must have thought the cut scenes were badass and that they were too good to skip, and force you to watch every one of them.... thereby removing any means of escape from the terrible story being delivered by terribly bad voice actors in terribly long cut scenes. So even if you want to pretend it is about a 12th century assassin... your attempts at trying to humor the game by lying to yourself about what the game is about will be thwarted.

3) gameplay is simplistic at best. Melee battles are dull, tiresome and repetitive. Assassination? Creep up on someone stealthily? Naw, they have you chase them down the street (almost all missions involve chasing someone down a street) then a big "press X" icon appears on the screen and you get to press X to assassinate.


Having said all that, the game is beautiful... and i heavily credit their Environment and Character teams for a job well done. Also, It's fun to just jump around on the buildings and run through the crowds etc. But that is much more comparable to a toy or gimmick than a full $60 game. It gets old after a few minutes.

However I am afraid, that I'm even more confused now than before...
Same old story some people love it, others hate it, some flame it, others recommend it.

There's at least one thing I don't need to be afraid of with the PC version.
The cutscenes. I read in a magazine, that with the PC version they will be skippable...

If only there was some sort of playable demo to try it out... (is there actually one and I just do not know about it? )

It's a very nice tech demo with beautiful graphics, BUT... You have pretty much seen most of the game in the first level before you get kicked out of your guild and the game really begins. After that its quite repetitive.

I think the easiest way to look at it is Hitman with a little Prince of persia with a very well realised medieval world. It's the gameplay that lets it down in the end. A month ago I heard there was not going to be a demo. Perhaps thats to hide the fact that at the end of the day it's a pretty shallow game.

About Assassins Creed: I guess it depends on what you expect from the game. If you play mission after mission and mostly concentrate on the story line you'll probably be disappointed because it won't last long and might feel repetitive. If on the other hand you enjoy exploring the world, not just rushing through the game, it might be fun. For my part I am rather a player fitting into the first category, Assassins Creed is not meant for me (but then again I don't grasp how people can spend 150 hours playing every single side quest in Oblivion or playing Gothic 3 at all).

That comparison is unjust to Hitman! After all the Hitman guys put a lot of effort into designing missions that are really unique

This is a character from a game I have been playing for the last 2 years ... and still enjoy it as much as I did 2 years ago.

I liked the game Assassin's creed on PS3 and am looking forward to the sequel but there were a quite a few flaws ...

1. repetition
2. weak enemy
3. blunt end

On the positives

1. Very good gameplay of free running
2. A variety of action animations while fighting
3. visually stunning
4. Playing the role of a stealth assassin was amazing
5. Liked the outfit of Al-tair

Any ideas when can we expect the sequel?

Well, I bought the PC version, and I'm actually enjoying it so far. The story seems nice, the gameplay was not disappointing, and exploring the environment is really cool.

BUT I ONLY BEAT THE 2ND LEVEL SO FAR.

I generally like free-running games, GTA3 is an old time favorite (looking forward to have GTA4 on the PC, whoo...), but I'm afraid that unlike the GTA series, there are not many options of "stuff to do" in the environment...

but I could be wrong. As I said, i'm in somewhat the beggining. Maybe I'll like the rest, maybe I wont. Let's see...
