Mozilla Firefox3, the champion of open-source projects, has just been released a few hours ago and they're attempting to set a Guiness World Record for the most software downloaded in 24 hours.

Go get it!

I think you made a typo there you wrote Mozilla Firefox3 after installing it are you sure its not Microsoft Firefox at least with regard to the interface... mehhh!

I wouldn't know what the default skin looks like because the first thing I always do when I install FF on a new machine is install the Noia Extreme skin...so it always looks like Noia to me. :p

Well FireFox rocks but unfortunately it's open sourced, which makes it an excellent prey easy to hack by virus makers. Such a critical applicaiton should not expose the internals.

Well, from another standpoint, it makes vulnerability analysis possible by wide range of people/utilities. I'd not say having/not having source code is the most important thing when it comes to security. You still have to be able to understand/write machine language in order to exploit the holes. Also, the availability of sources makes it possible to recompile with different addressing schemes, extra stack protection/whatever.

I personaly don't trust binary-only code nearly that much as I do the one with accessible sources. Few times in the history the source code availability prooved to me as a good source of information about the reason program fails in some cases.

Anyway, hooray for FF3

Sorry but that is just downright stupid. Security by obscurity is one of the dumbest concepts that exist. It is like thinking your house is secure because you hide the key under the doormatt.

It is a lot better and safer for critical applications to have their source code exposed. Which has been proven again and again in hacking contests and the like, by the way.
