OpenGL 3.0 and DX11 article
Here is an interesting article I ran across:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ope ... ,2019.html
I haven't kept up with the history of dx vs openGL, so I can't really comment much. The article seems to be pretty objective, I find it a good read for people wanting to know more about the lastest GL and upcoming DX11.

... which is kinda the point. GL is the only option on Mac & Linux, it needs to be better, and Longs Peak was supposed to reboot it. It failed to do that.warmi wrote:I am not sure what is all that bruuhaa all about , after all OpenGL has been a marginal API (at best) as far as the video game industry is concerned for number of years now.

Not having read any TFA's on that topic, it sounds like SGI's OpenGL implementation is now using one of the GPL licenses. *yawns*nikki wrote:GL is now Free Software isn't it? Sounds more 'Open' now.
Khronos failed twice. It succumbed to internal dissent from the CAD vendors and dropped the openness policy that would have made that obstructionism apparent.
IMO, the games industry needs to stand up to Khronos, Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo and say "Enough! We need a platform agnostic API." If Khronos/OGLARB can't get over itself then it needs to be politely excused while the adults get on with the real work.

which is not all that great news, I really would like to say good bye to windows alltogether ~v~ on a medium-long run.
