Looking for servers, what should I look for?

Hello. I've been searching for a good hosting service, failing at every step.

I would appreachiate if one could help me.

I want an server on which I will be able to run my programs, proceses, such as server programs. I realy dont know anything else-.-

Price is not a problem, since I am just looking, for now.

I've rented a root server from 1and1.com for a few years now, and have been rather satisfied with them.

I purchased a slice with SliceHost a few months back, I haven't done anything serious with it yet. But I've heard nothing but good from them.

If you're in the UK and are looking for solid support rather than cheap, Dedipower host the Ogre server and I've been very happy with them. They handle key updates, monitor the server for downtime, offer 24x7 tech response from individual UK engineers (no call centres) etc. My primary concern was not having to field issues myself when I'm travelling etc, and I'd heard some horror stories about the cheap providers when it came to resolving support issues.

I posted a similar question earlier this year here (UK hosts).

Following Sinbads advice, I got quotes from Rackspace, Dedipower and UKFast, and played them all off against each other. It worked like a dream

I have a small business website hosted with RackSpace now. Their support is rediculously good - I get answers and resolutions before Ive finished submitting the ticket! Seriously, these guys are good; if you get a deal you can afford, I strongly recommend them.

I live in Slovenia, but I dont think the distance would be a problem, since they take care of it...

What I need more than a database with 100mb storage, is permission to run my programs on the damn thing, as I sed - custom servers for my applications!

Am thinking of dedicating one of my computers for such use, running on dynamic domain system.

I have NO experience in this whatsoever

With a root server (server rental), it's "yours" -- you can put anything on it, run anything you want, any way you want.
