Voting posts feature for the forums

As a user (lurker) of many other forums around the interwebs, I'm growing used to the vote feature that many of them have. You all know this: you can vote each post either positively or negatively, or at least flag them as helpful.

You can see this at StackOverflow, Youtube, Yahoo Answers, Facebook... Pretty much everywhere nowadays.

I think it's obvious that it would improve the feeling of satisfaction - and feed the ego ^__^U - of those users who answer helpfully to others. Ogre forums are inspiringly great, and this feature could help it grow even nicer.

So, what I ask for is that the forums contain this voting feature. I'm not the one to claim it's an easy thing to do - I don't even know if it's technically possible. Anyway, just sayin'...

What do you guys think? Do you feel like there's a need for this? Would anyone have the chance (skills and time) to implement it?

The problem is, that we installed such a mod, there is no guarantee that it will be updated to future forum software. If suddenly development was stopped, we would have to stick with the current forum software running at that time, or worse try and uninstall the mod and risk breaking the forums in the process.

So unless voting posts becomes an actual feature of phpBB, it won't be installed I'm afraid. There are a few features myself would like the forums to have, but we can't use them for the same reason.

Anyway stackoverflow works in a different way than a forum so it wouldn't be useful here. A useful thing would be a stackexchange website targeted at 3D (real time?) rendering : http://area51.stackexchange.com/

There seem to be a proposition for 3D Rendering but not on the programming side...
